6P Aesthetics

Is anyone else bummed out about the design of the 6P? Specifically, the protruding black bar on the back? While the internal specs may be good, it seems the aesthetic design is just....blech. I will wait for the phone to hit the street the street before making a final determination, but I will admit that I am already biased against it.

Not really sure; it is hard to tell if those leaks are showing us a final product or a prototype or a mock up.

dont really care about bare phone looks it will be in a case for my use. do care about size of screen, price and battery. Just sent back the moto xpe wouldn't last through my work days and I don't work at a desk. Put on charger at night take off in morning if a phone cant do that I dont need it.

An article from Android Police with an official 6P picture popped up as one of my Google Now cards this morning (can't post the link because I am a newbie here) ....it seems all of the rumors about the design were legit.

I probably give about 70-75% decision weight to device utility and specs with the difference being a combination of ergonomics and aesthetics.

Not a deal breaker for me. The only deal breaker for me is if its going to work on VZW network.

yeah I hope it works on VZ cause I really don't want to have to go to T-Mobile. if I'm on the fence that could be a deal breaker.

I need a second phone for work, and won't hesitate to pull the trigger on the Nexus 6 which I use for personal use. if the 64GB version is $650, it'll have to be worth the extra $300 ... I'd prefer a slightly smaller phone as it'll serve less as a media device, and a better camera and battery life.

and just having something new and different is worth something, so it's not all about features and specs.

the 810 definitely puts it behind the 8 ball, although I actually think the black bar on the back looks cool on the gold version ... real cool actually.

the Nexus 6 is a beast though, and at $350 it's the best phone available right now. the size, front speakers and display are amazing.

really looking forward to the 29th ... I'm hoping for a 3450 mAh battery and $599 price tag for for the 64GB version. that and being available in VZ would get me in the Play Store at launch.

football and Nexus, two things I look forward to every year!

I'm hoping for microSD slot and 1080p screen.

just about every single leak I've read has consistently said 1440p and I haven't heard any place mention a thing about an SD slot. and if the 32/64/128 storage sizes are accurate, there's really no chance of it.

these companies can say what they want, and shockingly some people actually believe them, but extra storage generates a ton of money and that's the only reason they don't always include it. I don't know their cost to add an extra 32-64 GB, but I imagine their margins are pretty big.

so from a business perspective, it obviously makes a ton of sense so I can't blame them. luckily I no longer have any use for an SD card, for my use 32-64 GB is more than enough. that said, my gym doesn't have Wi-Fi and gets awful service, so it's tough to stream. I don't like working out with a phone on me, so I just load a playlist onto my iPod. works for me, but I get why a lot if people wouldn't buy a phone without SD.

and I wish all phones maxed out at 1080p. the higher resolution isn't worth the added expense and power consumption.

Then you'll be very disappointed with the Nexus.

There has yet to be any Nexus that has had great battery life. And there is nothing to suggest that that will change.

Anyone who needs a phone to last all day needs to switch to a feature phone. If your work keeps you away from a charger all day long, how do you have time to use it?

Or better yet: Buy one of those cheap Blu phones with the giant battery. Try this one:

BLU Studio Energy, with its really big battery, now available on Amazon for $149 http://www.androidcentral.com/blu-studio-energy-its-really-large-battery-now-available-amazon-149

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Your right there that's why I'm thinking of trying the 6splus. Not married to Android. Will get what works for me.

Trust me when I say this: I've had the iPhone 6 Plus. And while it's battery life is good, it won't last as long as you need it to.

Only a phone with a battery like the Energy will be able to do as you need.

Optimization can only take a battery so far. Eventually, you need a bigger cell to increase use time.

My humble suggestion is to find a phone that has good 3rd party support and get a battery case.

I'm assuming if you are away from a charger all day, then you probably have a case on your phone already. Work construction or something similar right? Might as well have a case that doubles as an extra battery.

Do that with the 6Plus or Note line and you should be good to go.

What is most sad is that Huawei is clearly capable of making sleek attractive devices. I suspect that in an effort to be different and let's face it not look too much like an iPhone, Google persuaded them to go this weird design route. I could probably get used to the hump actually. What bothers me most is how tall this device is, especially when the other two 5.7 inch flagships out this year are wonderfully compact for their screen size. I'm typing this on a moto x pe. It isn't perfect but I really love how it looks and surprisingly that is a big reason why I'm leaning towards keeping it (still have until Oct 1st to decide).

"If your work keeps you away from a charger all day long, how do you have time to use it?"

a lot of people, myself included, are on their phone in the field ... sales rep in the city, in and out of buildings, bad signals, max brightness, etc .. so on the phone all day but away from a charger.

IF the 3450 mAh rumor is true it'll get better battery life than previous Nexus phones, but yeah, their track record has been mediocre at best.

also, which "feature" phones are you referring to? certainly not the S6 I assume? other than the Note 5, the 2015 flagships have had bad battery life IMO. the G4 has a replaceable battery which is appealing, but personally I can't stand the software

and most Nexus fans aren't gonna be interested in Blu until they prove they can provide quick, reliable updates ... a battery pack/case would be a better solution
