6p can't stay connected to WiFi.

I have Comcast and I'm using one of their rented modems. It's their new dual band 802.11ac router and it's fast. I haven't had a single issue with any other device connecting or staying connected to it except the new Chromecast, which wouldn't connect at all to 5ghz, but did to the 2.4.

My 6p connected but it keeps disconnecting. Oddly it seems to happen when I'm not using it. I'll pick it up and it won't be connected, then it has a really hard time connecting. It keeps saying "authentication problem" and going to "saved". It does this a few times and then reconnects.

I'm pretty sure this is hurting my battery and ruining doze. I feel like it's been getting worse and last night my phone wouldn't go into doze. I looked in battery stats and it kept waking itself up. These wake up times coincided with WiFi disconnecting because there were tons of slashes in the WiFi connection line at the same places.

I would really appreciate any help I could get as it's making me feel like I need to return the device.

Is it an ARRIS comcast wireless gateway? Those are garbage. I work for a "large cable provider in the United states"... try and get one of the Cisco XB3 emtas. You should be able to go to a cable store and request one or if you request one specifically a tech should be able to hook you up even tho technically they can't positively give you a specific piece of equipment. The cisco emtas are wireless AC as well. Different firmware though.

Yes it's an Arris. And I have 2.4 and 5 ghz with separate passwords so I can be sure to only connect to 5ghz.

Comcast has repeatedly told me they have no other brands of modem to give me. I had lots of trouble with slow WiFi speeds on the old one so I have asked many times. But this is the new 802.11ac one. I am looking online because I'm thinking of just buying my own, do you have a recommendation for a solid performing dual band modem WiFi combo that doesn't break the bank?

Do u have the phone service? The phone service is tied into the emta. If you buy your own modem for Internet you will still be stick using the other box for phone. Unless you purchase an emta of your own which is a pain in the *** since there are literally 1 or 2 models you can use.

No I don't use their phone service.

Do you think this modem would be any good? I'm having a hard time finding a modem/router combo under $200 with dual band ac.

U could just buy a wireless router and plug it into the comcast router... if it doesn't drop then you know it's the comcast router. If it does keep dropping, you know it's the phone and u can return the router.

Yeah but if I'm going to spend the money I figure it would be worth it just to replace the modem so I don't have to pay them $10 a month to rent theirs.

I could just keep the Comcast modem here for a few days while I test the new one.

But everything I read online from people says that Comcast modems are bad. It wouldn't work at all with the Chromecast. And I remember having this problem in the past with other nexus devices. There's something about stock Android that seems to not play well with Comcast modems. Idk if that even makes sense. But in the end if it comes down to having to choose the phone or the modem, the modem gets the boot.

I had this problem with my 6P and the Airport Extreme - resetting/restarting the router helped. Also do you have multiple routers in your network?

I would do this. Comcast hardware is honestly crap -- Always has been. Especially for the $10 a month. I paid $80 for my modem -- that paid for itself pretty quickly.

Now luckily for me .. Google fiber is *potentially* is coming to my area. If it does .. bye bye Comcast :D.

No just the one. I can restart the modem tonight and see how it does overnight.

Sweet - I had issues where my phone wouldn't play nice with WPA2-only security, so after setting up all the routers in our house with WPA/WPA2 it now works flawlessly.

Comcast modem just wouldn't play nice with my 6p. Picked up a netgear modem and Linksys router from best buy and it connects much better.

I got dual band 802.11ac and 5ghz signal doesn't have quite the range that the Comcast modem had, but it still works throughout my whole apartment at full speed. And the connection is much more stable. Hasn't disconnected at all, and doze even worked better last night. I'll give it a couple more days to be sure before I return the Comcast one.
