6P turning on while in pocket

Is there a way to keep the 6p from accidentally turning on in my pocket. More often than not when I start a Runkeeper activity and go for a walk, at some point during the walk (often times within a few minutes) the screen turns on and ends my Runkeeper activity. Other times it will have opened some random app and begun entering random gibberish text into a text field. Typically this only occurs while in my pants pocket. If it's in a jacket pocket it seems to happen much less, if at all. Wondering if there is a way to prevent this from happening. It really seems like it's ULTRA sensitive to being in a pocket. Thanks!

Do you happen to have ambient display on? I had this issue in general and when I turned it off, it was problem solved

That's the first thing I thought of and it is OFF at the moment. However, this has happened with ambient display both on or off.

It's strange that it's doing this. Really the only other things I can think of are: that the app is waking up your device with certain notifications or you're accidentally waking it somehow and if you have the screen facing your leg, it's some how registering it as a touch. I know I had that issue with my moto x depending on the type of pants I wore for my warehouse job.

Check your Smart lock settings. This was my problem at the office where I added it to a trusted place. Putting the phone in my pocket would sometimes unlock the device then open random apps including several **** dials. As soon as I removed it random unlocks stopped.

Thanks for the responses everyone, very helpful. I think I found the culprit. It was the "double tap" the screen to turn ON. I really don't need or want that option so I disabled it under DISPLAY SETTINGS. We'll see how the phone fares when I'm out and about today. If it still freaks out I'll give the Smart Lock settings a look. Thanks adam9997.

What Nexus do you have? My 6p has no option to "double tap" for the screen........

Do you mean the double power button press for the camera? That doesn't even unlock the phone, so not sure how that would get you into other apps, unless your phone isn't locked to begin with. I don't see any settings for "double tap" to turn on the screen, isn't that an LG feature?

I have the Angler/Verizon version of the 6p. The setting I was referring to is under DISPLAY.

I was wondering that as well, unless he has root and xposed I don't see how he has that option.

I do have root and have Xposed and XGel installed. Not sure if either of those drop the particular double tap setting into the DISPLAY menu or not.

I have completely stock on Project Fi and I don't have Tap to Wake. Must be from Xposed.

I have March updates installed and so far unless my finger accidentally touches the fingerprint scanner, the phone doesn't wake up automatically in my pocket. And damn, that scanner is fast!

Thanks. I have had this exact problem for a while and never figured out what was causing it. I thought it was a bad proximity sensor...

I am also having the device turn on while in my pocket...but I've got finger print lock on, how could this be happening? Even with ambient display it shouldn't bypass the lock screen and sometimes I find it has. Weird...not a major deal but odd.
