6P very warm, straight out of the box

Hi,

So I finally purchased my long awaited 6P last thursday from a local store. Went home, unpacked, installed, all up and running, fine and dandy.

However, within 20 minutes of just testing the phone generally, surfing, starting to download apps, I noticed it becoming quite warm. As I said, this was straight out of the box.

Since that, I have tested the phone for a few days and found out: It gets quite warm, within 10-20 minutes of ordinary surfing. No other apps running. When watching videos on Youtube/Netflix, it gets warm, but within what I would call 'normal' increased temperature. But when surfing, using maps, camera, gmail, other apps, it gets quite warm pretty fast.

this is what some of the sensors shows:

The battery temp. goes to about 35°C when watching video and up to 39°C when as warmest during "normal" operation.

The battery performs normally and the phone works just fine.

I've tried factory reset, no change. Tried Firefox instead of Chrome, no change.

Been in contact with Google Support and received another list of things to try (closing all apps, don't leave the device in direct sunlight etc.)

However the guy said that I'd probably be best off leaving it back to the store and let them deal with it. And that will be my last option. They will send it for service check when I return it.

I'd just like to ask here before returning the phone, if anyone has had any similar experience? Is returning it the best thing to do at this point?

Many thanks in advance,

Got my 6P just over a week ago, as usual initial boot up and install of all apps and updated gets the device very warm. However, since then my device hasn't been warm at all.

When initial boot up did you install from.a previous device? I started from scratch, just a habit of mine.

Nope, I did a clean install.

Perhaps I'm a bit too anxious.. Maybe I should just cool down myself and see how it evolves. I mean, the phone operates just fine, it's just this heat issue, which I might blow up in proportion.. The warranty is valid for a year so...

I say wait another couple of days and see if it persists like say until this Thursday and maybe return it and get a new one.

You have 14 days right?

Just wait on it. Any android phone, even if you don't add apps, tends to get warm when you first boot fresh (out of box or factory reset). The battery also takes a day or two to settle down.

If a few days from now, you phone is warm (all the time), and you battery is draining fast; for example, you leave the phone alone for a few hours, come back and it is warm and the battery drained 30% or something. In that case, short of a rogue app, your phone might have a factory defect, so then exchange it.

My phone rarely gets warm now, but it did the day set it up.

Its hard for use to judge, but you seem anxious. If you have sometime to exchange it, give it some time to settle.

Thanks for the replies guys.

well,14 days is only without breaking the seal. it's the standard one year warranty for factory defects. But reading your replies I doubt that's the case. I guess mine just gets a bit warmer than some others. (I've read of other people with similar problems).

As I stated, it performs like a charm, only gets warm when browsing or switching between apps. Battery seems fine.

I'll wait a bit and see how it goes. Thanks.
