I'll be a first time tablet owner and am looking for good advice. I've sort of narrowed my choices to these 2 tablets. I like how the Galaxy has expandable memory, but I like the power plant nder the hood of the Nexus 7.

16 GB isn't a whole lot. I'm already up there on my Galaxy Nexus. I don't mind ICS; I'm rooted with GB on my GNex. I suppose my main question is if anyone has had a bad Galaxy Tab experience?

IMO I think with the Nexus its time to look into cloud storage. I use it now with dropbox and have no issues.

If people are worried about security then just don't put up anything of value(Movies, songs, etc)

16gb is enough for me though I find. I have like 2 pages full of apps now, a bunch of songs, a few shows, and a few movies.

When I need space I just remove a movie I watched or some episodes of a show.

I've narrowed my choices down to Blackberry PB vs Nexus 7. Just waiting a couple of weeks to see if RIM launches a update for the PB.

As for Samsung Galaxy vs Nexus, Nexus 7 hands down. Even though Galaxy has the Sd slot, you cannot store apps on it. So what's the point of more storage? And I've played with it, and it just doesnt look that appealing for some reason. the UI needs a facelift.

Dude.... just no.

My girlfriend has a playbook and I have a Nexus 7 and they are night and day different.

I want RIM to be successful as I have friends that work for them and they are Canadian company, but my god that tablet is terrible if you care about apps. In my opinion if a tablet does not have Netflix or Skype its not worth getting.

But just overall Nexus 7 is night and day better. So much faster like literally butter smooth. The Playbook lags at times and sites are slow as molasses going uphill on a cold winters day.

I posted in the Playbook section, but if you can get android on the Playbook it might be worth it. Do you know if you can?

You can get android on the Playbook but its not as good. So that's why I am waiting a couple of weeks before making the decision to see if RIM updates it or not. Nexus 7 will be my defacto choice no doubt about that.

You don't mind ICS now. But do you mind having it forever? Because Samsung is pretty freaking bad at updates, even worse with tablets so far.

To me the best thing about the Nexus isn't the hardware (and the hardware is real sweet), it's that it's a "Nexus", it'll stay current with the latest versions of Android for probably as long as you'll use the tablet.

Jelly Bean is a pretty nice update, and who knows how awesome Keylime Pie will be. Things you might miss out on with most tablets you buy today other than the Nexus 7.

+1 to the that. I have the PlayBook and just side loaded Kindle on it. It will run the Android apps that the developers choose to create for the PB. It's a simple process so I don't know why more developers don't do it.

If someone has a BB phone, then BB Bridge with the PlayBook is great and the two just go together. But in the end, it's the lack of apps that keeps my PlayBook sitting in the drawer doing nothing.

Do you have a link to load it up on the playbook? Do you mean Kindle Android? Sorry noob question.

Thanks a bunch. I will do this to my Girlfriends playbook I think for her. Do you find it works well for the most part?

It works pretty good. Once I signed in all my books and magazine subscriptions were there. No lag turning pages or anything like that.

Sorry but I'm not familiar with the Kindle since I don't even think its sold in Canada, but can you do pretty much everything that other Android tablets can do?

When I think of Kindle I think of only an E-Reader.

The Kindle is just a reader, but the Kindle Fire is a reader/media consumption device. It runs Android (Gingerbread) but is heavily skinned. You get access to the Amazon app store, but not Google Play. It's pretty much a portal to all things Amazon. That's what makes the Nexus 7 so desirable for the same price; you are free to do what you want and not locked into an ecosystem.

Just read this. Unrelated

Research in Motion unveiled a mobile version of its PlayBook tablet in Canada as the struggling BlackBerry maker looked to gain footing in the fast-growing market.
The company, whose sales of 260,000 tablets in the past quarter left it far behind the leaders, said the new 4G version would be available in Canada on August 9 and in other markets in the coming months.
"We're excited to bring customers the first BlackBerry PlayBook tablet with support for 4G LTE networks," said David Smith, executive vice president for mobile computing.
"The new 4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook offers a broad range of premium features, including a stunning seven-inch display, front and rear facing HD video cameras... it also offers premium performance on high speed cellular networks, helping customers to be more productive than ever and to make the most of their time on the go."
RIM in June offered up a grim quarterly report showing deepening losses and worsening sales, as it announced 5,000 job cuts and a delay in its new smartphone platform.
The company, which has been hammered in the rapidly changing market now dominated by makers of devices using Google's Android software and Apple's iPhone, said it would cut jobs to boost efficiency and save $1 billion in operating costs.
The company delayed its new BlackBerry 10 platform, which had been expected later this year in an effort to drive sales in the key holiday season. The new platform is widely seen as the last chance for BlackBerry to regain traction in the marketplace.

Okay thanks. SO probably no Netflix then as Amazon has their own service?

Might not do this.

I just check the Amazon Appstore. Surprisingly it has Netflix.

PS. I have no idea why anyone would even consider buying a Kindle Fire now though. It is old and supposedly Amazon is about to release a new one in a month or so.

I don't want to buy one. Want to put it on my Girlfriends Playbook.

Hmmm might try it and see if she likes it.

Just to clarify a few things or at least add my thoughs

1- The Kindle Fire supports both Netflix and Hulu Plus, very well even
2- Kindle Fire OS is elegant, but unchangeable. It's very easy to use. I like it quite a bit actually and I own a Nexus 7. It's not too hard to change though. That's another story and I'll save it unless you want to know.
3- While I like my Kindle Fire Ravy has a point about the timing. Wait a month and see what Amazon does to refresh it. Then decide. If you don't want to wait, get the Nexus and be safe. Otherwise hunt for a deal on the Fire, which does happen from time to time.

The Galaxy tab 2 screen is going to be a major let down for you compared to the Galaxy Nexus. The pixels really got to me. Its not that bad...just bad compared to the GN

The Nexus 7 is still not the same as the GN screen res...but better than the GT2

Also.. if you are going to get the Tab... but it from Walmart this week so you get the $249 and $50 gift card

Speaking of Wal-Mart, make sure to check prices. In the Sunday flyer, they had a Nexus 7 for 249.00 and you get the $50.00 Wal-Mart card. I was ready to return mine to Staples and go to Wal-Mart when I noticed it was the 8GB version. All they did was jack the price up 50 bucks, so it's not really a deal at all.
