So based off of the cat of the emmc:

dev: size erasesize name
mmcblk0p17: 00040000 00000200 "misc"
mmcblk0p21: 0087f400 00000200 "recovery"
mmcblk0p22: 00400000 00000200 "boot"
mmcblk0p25: 35dffe00 00000200 "system"
mmcblk0p28: 001ffe00 00000200 "local"
mmcblk0p27: 1b4ffc00 00000200 "cache"
mmcblk0p26: a7c00000 00000200 "userdata"
mmcblk0p29: 014bfe00 00000200 "devlog"
mmcblk0p30: 00040000 00000200 "pdata"

This is my math:

(in bytes here)
262144 - misc
8713216 - recovery
4194304 - boot
903872000 - system
2096640 - local
458226688 - cache
2814377984 - userdata
21757440 - devlog
262144 - pdata

(Total in bytes)
4213762560

/ by 1024 = kb
4115002.5

/ by 1024 = mb
4018.55712890625

/ by 1024 = gb
3.924372196197509765625

now add the erase size (0.000004291534423828125 GB)
= 3.92437648773193359375 GB of "user space"

Now what I need confirmation on (as well as most people should want confirmation on) is:
Are the "missing" 4GB dedicated to the OS?

:confused:I think so, just wondering if anyone knew for sure.:confused:

Thanks!

After installing Titanium .. I'm only showing the max internal at 2.80GB.. I would love to know where that extra 4-5 gigs went.

I didn't install Titanium and I am showing like 2.5Gb... I was expecting more like 3.5Gb after formating.

this is a very big issue for me

I feel deceived by HTC and Verizon

there is no way the internal memory on this device is 8gb

I feel the same way,so I called HTC tech support today. The answer I got was not what I was hoping for.The OS and pre-installed software take up 5.4GB of that 8GB of internal memory, there is nothing that can be deleted and there is no update coming to change this, and this was the most on any of their phones to date.
On a lighter side she verified that we will be getting gingerbread by end of 2nd quarter.
And the # is 866-449-8358

Awesome. Was running Gingerbread on my D1 and was liking it. Good news.

I have a very hard time believing that the software takes up 5.4gb. My evo only uses 700 for Android 2.2 and the 12 apps sprint put on there...

Let's think about this. We know for a fact that sense 2.0 and android 2.2 don't take more than a gigabyte max and that there is an 8 gigabyte emmc on board. Where we don't know is why only a projected 4 gigs are used by the system and user. One theory was that they doubled up to speed up encode/decode but this is only somewhat convincing. Regardless it's the best answer because there is no software on this phone that is 4 gigabytes. That's a ridiculously huge amount of space for any operating system let alone a mobile one.
