905 Data Connectivity Issues - Called Motorola

I called Motorola today to see if there was some kind of fix for this data drop issues. Never had a problem on 902

They said to go have Verizon Deactivate then Reactivate the Sim Card for my phone and if that didnt work to do a complete wipe of the phone.

Has Anyone wiped their phone and did it help?

Has anyone deactivated and reactivated the sim card and did it help?

Is there a way to get back to 902?

I just think that a full wipe of the phone is a pain. And i wanted to see if anyone else has wiped their phone and if it made a difference?

I wiped my phone and it did nothing for the data issue. You should be able to use RSD to get back to .902 and then try the update again. I'm going to try that tonight. The data issue seems to be hit or miss, and people are saying it's how the update took.

I'm going to do the OTA through Wifi rather than over 4G just to eliminate another variable.

I doubt wifi will help--the update should have been verified by the OS before it was applied.

I did what I said last night and so far data has been rock solid. I can't speak for when I was asleep, but I haven't had a data drop since I flashed back to .902 and took the update again.

I did let the OS settle for about an hour before taking the update. I also didn't let my Google account sync between .902 and .905. It's more work, but since it seems to have resolved the problem I'm happy with it.

Are you implying that synching is the cause of 4G dropouts??

No, I just tried to eliminate variables and I wanted the make sure the OS was "settled" when the update took. To that end I didn't want hundreds of apps trying to download, and install and integrate into the system.

I had all my apps backed up by Titanium and stored in my dropbox, so I didn't need them to sync anyway.

After the .905 update took I used Motofail to re-root and installed TB, synced with dropbox and installed all my apps. TB asked if I wanted to go back to my old Android ID. I selected no, and all my apps still seem to work fine. So far still no data drops.

I don't think they'd like us posting links to other forums, but search this term.
" How to Flash 5.5.893 or 5.9.902 from Rsdlite"

Follow the instructions, it's really simple. Make sure you have a full charge and FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS.

Follow the instructions.

Has anyone been having any connection issues when the you're not synced with Google? As I understood when my data connection is blue it's synced with the Google server and if it's white it is not. Whenever my connection is shown as white I'm unable to get on the web or anything else that requires a connection. This happens when I'm on 4G/3G or even wifi.

I am under the impression that white is "connecting" and blue is "connected". If true it would explain your issue.

Well that would explain it. I haven't had any connection issues until last week. I have tested the difference in 3g to 4g and the only time i lose data is on 4g. 3g is always solid.

That is exactly what blue means - you are authenticate with Google. White means that you are not - which could mean that your phone has a bad connection, that the server is not routing packets, that Google's servers are down, or you have changed your Google account password and the phone cannot authenticate (there are probably other causes - Verizon's network is down, their DNS servers are bad, etc.)

So, you could have a good internet connection when it is white, but, most likely, you have a bad connection and no data is working at all.

I can see how that can happen with data even though I've never been below two bars on 4G. Im curious why it'll still happen when I'm connected to my wifi at home. I'll get the white wifi symbol and have no internet access. It happens no matter how good the signal is. Im stumped.

I stand corrected, though in my experience there's little to no difference in the interpretation. If it's white for me, it's not working.

I'm the same way. When it's white I try toggling into airplane mode and back out. Most of the time that works. I was hoping that 905 update was going to fix that. Guess I was wrong...

I'm sorry, but we should NOT need to do anything to our phones after an update except MAYBE a power cycle. If we're constantly having to do a battery pull, complete wipe, etc., just to get our phones to work, then Moto isn't doing something right. This is the first Moto phone I've had in a long time (long time HTC user) and I have never had as many issues with any of my HTC phones as I have with the Bionic.

And honestly, I think it's going to get worse with ICS.

If you have a phone that requires near-daily battery pulls, the brand on the phone is definitely Blackberry. Been there--done that. I hope RIM dies a miserable "death". and soon. I'm tired of the faithful acting as if RIM is going to hit it out of the ball park with BB10. Isn't going to happen.

My issue is more with the wireless. I installed a wifi lock app (it forces the wifi to stay on - why in the world do i need an app to do that when there's a setting that tells it to stay on, but it doesn't??). Whever it's on my home wireless for an extended period of time (day?) the verizon data connection will drop and only a reboot will get it back.

About 4g vs 3g - back when I first got the 902 update I had that issue all the time. I kept my phone on 3g because 4g was just too unreliable.

I think my issue is related to the wifi lock - but it could easily be the 3g vs 4g.

I thought that one of the main point of the updates Verizon has done since December was specifically to fix the data connection issues with 4g. It must truly be a defect in the phone hardware. I have hope for ICS - but I agree, it could easily just make things worse.
