Is .99999999 with infinite 9s equal to 1?

Can someone get this straight?

But I thought if you had an infinite series it would equal to 1

And since 1/9 is .111111
.1111111x9=.9999999
9/9=1?

x = 0.999...
10x = 9.999...
10x-x = 9.999... - 0.999...
9x = 9
x = 1

Nope. You start out already establishing x=.999... The next step is a pointless example that doesn't change anything. The third is right, but the forth is where you messed up. I don't know how you got to that, but that line shouldn't even exist.

Simply worked out, 10x-x = 9. There is no 9x=9 or anything like that.
