Warranty: will you void your phones mfg warranty by upgrading via the OTA update like I read in previous articles?

If the OTA update disables your ability to Root later on why are so many people rushing to do it (at least it appears that way)? I thought it was all about the ROOT?

As of now, is there no way to update the phone AND maintain the ability to ROOT later on?

Aaahhh, too much info all at once, I'm confused...
I just want to be able enjoy the HTC bug fixes and ROOT my phone once I feel comfortable doing so.

The OTA update means "Over The Air" update and it's provided by HTC via the carrier (T-Mobile). Whoever told you that will void the warranty does not know what he's talking about. The update it's released by the manufacturer and tested and approved by the carrier. If you want to root afterwards, just give it a couple of days, I bet somebody on XDA will have it done. No one said that you'll lose the ability to root later. Just not right now. If you are still stock (I am), the upgrade it's welcomed. It fixed the issue with icons being replaced by the standard icon, the issue with lines and noise on the widgets, we got the ability to screen capture (Power+Home) and it feels faster and more stable. I still have to see the improvements on battery life. Ohh...and we now have Gtalk with video chat. Happy days. :D

I think the OP was confusing the OTA update process with the bootloader unlock process post-update. Using the HTC method to unlock your bootloader after you update will indeed void your warranty. However, if you unlock your bootloader before updating, then update using the link in the above post, your warranty will not be automatically voided.

Thanks for the clarification.
I cant remember where I read about the warranty concern. It was either on here or the HTC forums.

I'm going to run the update regardless. Not really concerned about any warranty issues ATM.

Thanks
