I'm not a newbie when it comes to using android devices, but I am a newbie when it comes to rooting & flashing roms etc. Those are the dark waters for me.
I've heard "rooting" get thrown around, but what does it really mean? I understand that it is a requirement before you can install a custom ROM to your android device, but I do not understand what it is.
Also, what are some reasons I should root my phone? I currently have an EVO 4G, and I hear good things about rooting, but I am so paranoid of losing all my data or my phone bricking on me.
Finally, as I understand it, different ROMs carry with them different benefits or unique traits. Is this true? And can you install multiple ROMs?
Maybe if this is easier, is there a website that explains the whole idea of rooting and its potential?
