A faster way to get to Voice Actions?

I miss the long press on the search key to easily speak commands, and I find that I have to hit the little mic on the search bar just right to get the voice prompt to pull up... does anyone know of an app or a solution that would add an icon size voice action button the home screen? Thanks!

In the widget section of the app drawer is a google search bar, it is atleast twice the size of the unremovable google bar but does the same functions.

What is frustrating is that there is an official Voice Search app in the Market which does exactly that, but I can't get it to work with ICS. It says it is installed in some places, but won't show up in the app tray. Very annoying.

I miss the search button too. I would prefer the unremovable search bar go away and add the search key back with long press opening voice search......if not can i get a larger dedicated voice search icon i can put on my homescreen..

Thanks. That's close, but what an eyesore! I'd rather not put that on my home screen! ;p

I haven't tried it yet, but I saw this on Droid-Life a month ago to add a search button to the soft menu. Perhaps it can return the search functionality we're used to from previous devices.

They really need to at the very least give us the option of putting the search button back in the menu. Now if I'm in the middle of doing something and want to search for something else, I have no choice but to go back to the home screen first, then start searching. This is such an unnecessary step.

If you're rooted there are mods on the xda site that add the magnifying glass artifact back to the default menu.
