Hello,
I got myself a blue GS3 2 days ago from an official sammy retail store.Today, while looking at the back in light I noticed that there're some hairline scratches on the hyperglaze coating.Honestly,I don't know if it's because of me or it came like that out of the box but I can tell you that I have been using it really carefully. It doesn't bother me too much since they are only visible at certain angles in direct light + I'm getting a case tomorrow anyways but well, having scratches on a brand new 650$ phone after only 2 days is kinda bad.

Mine is scratched to pieces from before i used a case.
I dont really care as the screen is perfect.
Plus i have a decalgirl sticker on the back and bezel :)
Get a case btw
Right now im using an excelent $1.50 rubber one n the phone just feels better to hold

Yeah that's a bummer. But you know what? . . aside from not looking "at the back in light" and "at certain angles in direct light" too closely, there's really not much you can do . . save for taking it back to the "official sammy retail store" you purchased it at for a replacement, which sounds unlikely to happen, due to the scratches being "hairline" and faint.

It's also a fact that some cases can actually scratch "the back" of your phones finish, (e.g.- OtterBox Defender), so be careful which case you choose; read all the reviews very thoroughly. This case has been working good on my S3, so far.

I noticed the same thing on one of my (silver finish) laptops? after taking it to a shop to have Windows 7 OS loaded on it ? after I put a new hard drive in it.
I was pretty bummed too. :( Especially after I had offered to drop-off my (perfect condition) laptop in a bag, for safe keeping. What's more, the shops attitude was: oh well, that's just the chance you take when you bring your computer to us for service. :(

Well,I guess I will just s*ck it up and get a gel case. The back gets fingerprints really easy(cleaning won't help much since the fingerprints will be back right when you hold the phone again) and those are much more visible than those ''scratches'' so why should I be upset ? lol.

Slap a PhantomSkin on it if you want protection without a case.

Yeah,I had gs2 and I was using a rubber case with it.It gave a good grip and provided enough protection ( dropped the phone a couple of times and it wasn't even scratched). And since it is rubbery ,it won't damage the phone.

Totaly man. This 99p ($1.40) inc shipping case is so comfy to use and id drop it from pocket height n not worry too much.
I dont use a screen protector but have the nice gloss black leather samsung vertical flip case for my pocket, slips in n out of my pocket nicely n looks pimp :)
