Hey guys, I'm about to root my LG Optimus T and I just wanted to clarify a few things before I attempt it.

I am using:

http://forums.androidcentral.com/t-...ad-only-memory-without-touching-computer.html

as my guide.

Question 1: Can i just root the phone without flashing a recovery/ nandroid/ custom ROM? Would i be able to delete bloatware off my phone still?

Question 2: Referring to the above question, would I be able to overclock my phone using SetCPU?

Sorry if these questions seem kinda noobish lol. I'm new to this :-\

thanks guys!

This guide is outdated.
Check Settings>About Phone>Android Version
Use that info and follow these root instructions REPOSITORY OF USEFUL POSTS

Yes

No, you need to flash a special overclock kernel. To do this you'll need a Custom Recovery.

Not meaning to hijack the thread but I am in similar position to the OP. I only want to root to delete bloatware. I have currently rooted via Z4Root. Before I go any further I have some questions concerning the custom recovery & NANDroid backup:

1. Should I make a custom recovery before I start removing apps? Say I uninstall Diner Dash but down the road I select to (or need to perform) a Factory data reset, will the reset fail due to the missing Diner Dash app? Or do I uninstall everything I don?t want then make my custom recovery and never worry about the Factory data reset?

2. What is the difference between making a custom recovery and the NANDroid backup? If I need to flash my backup to my phone which is used? The custom recvoery or the NANDroid backup?

3. When making a custom recovery and NANDroid backup, I assume those images/files are saved to the SD card. IS that correct? If so I can them copy them to a flash drive and or PC for future use.

4. Finally, is there an app or hack that will enable me to increase my in-call volume by a notch or two? I already have the setting as high as it will go but I find I still can?t hear as well as I?d like.

Thanks all,

The term is confusing, but Recovery is not a backup of your system, it is more like a very featured BIOS that allows you to perform operations to your Android ROM before it is loaded, such as adding or replacing files. A Nandroid is quite simply a backup image of your entire system, which can be restored in the event you do something that really messes your Android up (like removing certain system files). One uses a custom Recovery to create a Nandroid backup. Your phone has a stock recovery when it ships, but it does not have the features you will want when tinkering. You will want to create a nandroid of your stock system immediately after rooting, so you probably should install the custom Recovery. ;)
Two things to always keep in mind:
-Always do a nandroid back up before changing something significant or flashing a new ROM.
-Never do a factory reset or accept an OTA update if running a custom ROM or Recovery.

See above response. You would use the custom recovery to flash your nandroid backup .
3. When making a custom recovery and NANDroid backup, I assume those images/files are saved to the SD card. IS that correct? If so I can them copy them to a flash drive and or PC for future use.
You are absolutely correct! The custom Recovery will usually create a folder on the root directory of your SD card. Nandroids for this device start around 80MB, so you may want to clean up every now and then or upgrade your SD card. And you should place a copy of a nandroid on a separate drive, especially of your stock ROM; you may want it someday if you upgrade devices.
