A few questions on my new N1?

Hey yall,

I just got my N1 and I'm starting to look at various things.

First off, is there any other way to turn the phone on besides the top button? My first natural reaction is to press the trackball since I'm coming from an iPhone.

Second, is there some kind of app or setting change that will allow setting the quiet setting from one of the hardware buttons?

As I find other questions I'll post em here. :)

Thanks

Another question, how do I change the default email app? I want to change it from the standard email to K9.

No.. there is no other way. And yeah welcome to android world.

perhaps no. I don't have any way to do this. But other members may have some idea.

You can install other email apps if you required. I hope this will help you. follow the link.

androidtapp.com/k9-mail/

I got K9 installed and setup, but the stock email is still running and giving me notifications along w/ K9. I've tryed stopping the default apparently, but it restarted itself.

Yes absolutely right. Just remove all your configuration(emailid/password etc.) from default mail app. And it won't disturb you more. ;)

1 - You would need to root the phone and run a rom with trackball wake. It is worth it for many if you dont mind unlocking.

2 - Use the volume down button to get to vibrate or quiet mode. After you get the the lowest volume setting it will go into the other two on its own.

Yea I plan to root at some point, but I'm gonna wait a bit till I 2.2 comes out to see what features it has in it.

That's good to know about the volume button, but it's a bit annoying that I can't put it on vibrate with out touching the screen.

Download the AudioManager application; it has a widget where you can easily adjust the audio settings

I ended up going with Ear. It's a bit like the profiles I used to have with my older Moto Razr phone. It'll work... :)

Long press the power button also gets you quickly to a silent mode control.
And the entire manual is online and worth a read.

The only thing I dont like about silent mode is its completely silent, I like having the phone vibrate when on silent.

That is why there is a vibrate mode and a silent mode....lol If you want it to vibrate only its there waiting for you.

Are you able to (without rooting and/or custom roms) make the slide to silent, slide to vibrate? I haven't checked, so I'm not sure.

On my stock N1 the sound using the top button or slider puts the phone into completely silent or full ringer. If I use the up down rocker after unlocking then it'll let me go to vibrate. I've found ear to be a better solution since it allows for other ringers to be set with each profile. Once I root then maybe it'll have ring, vib, & silent.

No... cyans rom lets you slide to vib but clearly you need to root and rom so may not work for those unwilling. It seamed that the question was based off of an easy method to do this which would be the volume rocker. Its surprising how many people do not realize this feature and go into settings and do it the hard way.

This thread is all over the place. Oh well.

Either way Kage_ nailed it.

What do you guys mean "slide to vibrate?" I'm confused what that means.
Its a feature on some roms that let you unlock and then just slide backwards to put the phone into vibrate. Just like you would decline a call but will put the vibrate only function on when the screen is locked.
