Well here I am. Used blackberry since BB9000 days. few months ago had a brief encounter with iPhone. And here I am, today i picked up Nexus 4. I am not a heavy user and so far, for what I do, the phone has proved to be blazing fast. Glad I chose this phone! Time to change my avatar :P

Alright so just a couple quick questions. Checking the software version, it says 4.3, is that the latest and greatest? Also about flashing, I wanna keep things simple and smooth. What advantages does flashing hold over stock?

4.3 is the highest version released to date, we're expecting 4.4 in the coming weeks (likely 3-6 weeks). In terms of custom ROM's versus stock... you're on pretty close to the leanest you can get, so it's really about adding options or pulling in a more efficient kernel. If it were me, I'd personally wait at least until after 4.4 for 2 reasons: 1. It could be brilliant standalone and leave you without the desire to tweak in that way 2. ROMs will be updated quickly and you can avoid a lot of repeatedly setting up the device with a little patience now.

One thing to play with in the mean time would potentially be a custom launcher (basically a home screen replacement), such as Nova Launcher or Apex Launcher, Action Launcher or Smart Launcher (there are lots to choose from) and searching through icon packs (enabled by using a custom launcher) to figure out the look/feel of what you like.

If you want to go overboard :D with customization, start watching and reading about UCCW and Zooper (make your own widgets, layouts, etc)

Below are some links to helpful posts regarding the customization side of the universe:

Welcome to the forums and Android!
Great thing about the Nexus is you will never have to worry about updates. They get sent from Google directly. I agree with Nothing about waiting. 4.4 is close to release. When that happens, the ROM developers will make their appropriate changes and release their new ROMs. But by that time, Nexus devices will have had the new version for a few weeks or more. And that is nothing compared to carrier skinned versions.

Welcome to Android Central! I have nothing more to say, because these guys ^^^ said it all.

As useful as BB may be for texting with its keyboard and all it's just so...well...Blackberry. It reminds me of cutting a 2 acre lawn with one of those manual lawn mowers. It's good you've made the switch.
