a question about downloaded apps

After you downloaded an app from the market, installed it, then uninstalled it later, what happens to the installation file itself that was downloaded? does the installation file stays in the phone and takes up the memory, or gets deleted automatically?

There is no installation file. The .apk is just copied into /data/app and removed upon uninstallation.

/data/app directory? hmm...i don't see anything under /data directory.

are you talking about /data dir. in the phone, or SD card?

Internal memory, unless you run apps to sd.

I once found some remains of an app when looking through Astro file manager. If I remember I think it was a backup copy of the apps settings.
