A well written review

I dispute the "well written".

Clickbait web sites are desperate for things to say, so desperate that they'll say anything--no matter how insignificant--and try to make it into the most earth-shattering "you could DIE from touching this it gets so hot!" pronouncement in the world.

It's one thing to report the facts, it's another thing entirely to editorialize and make huge mountains out of tiny anthills just so you can attract people who are anal about ten grams of weight or "it's different than the Note, therefore it's bad!"

What I appreciated about the review:

  • She talked about actual camera usage, not just a spec comparison
  • The first time I've read about the 2x optical zoom on the back camera -- a huge selling point
  • She talked about actual phone usage, such as how it felt, responsiveness, how it "looked"
At no point did I get the impression that the article exaggerated issues, or that she was "anal" about things like ten grams of weight. Also, Mobile Syrup is far from "clickbait" -- they're a good source for Canadian tech news, and often have exclusive interviews with Canadian tech leaders.

[*]The first time I've read about the 2x optical zoom on the back camera -- a huge selling point
First time I've read this too, and even a Google search for "V20 optical zoom" wasn't pulling up any meaningful results. You're right, this would be a huge selling point to have, but I think she's misunderstanding how the two cameras interact. There's not a physical adjustment of the focal length that I'm aware of. If there was, I'm sure we would have heard about it by now.

She seemed to put too much info that was based on real use to be classic click bait. Of course the battery will get hot when fast charging and the device will feel hotter due to the metal back. Better for the heat to dissipate through the metal than pent up.

The problem is being critical for performance or crashes when LG clearly asked for no reviews with demos. Not seeing the point of being critical as a result.

Check out the "camera" specs at GSM Arena: LG V20 - Full phone specifications -- I think that once reviews are "allowed" to be published, we'll see more about this.

I am not aware of an optical zoom, unless she is referring to toggling between the two lenses and thinks that. The Nokia N600 was one of the very few phones to have an optical zoom. The device as a phone though sucked.

I've asked Rose (the author) for clarification in the comments of the article.

There was also a phone by Asus that had (I think) 3x optical zoom... but it had very poor reviews.

Good review...Sad to hear about performance issues...I'm one person that likes to wait for actual user reviews posted on YouTube. Hope the performance issues that were noticed in this review don't plague the final retail version too....

No optical zoom on the V20. We get standard angle and ultra wide angle. There is no actual lens dedicated to getting the user closer to the subject without digital zoom. This has frustrated me to no end as reviewers are mixing in the iPhone 7 Plus camera with every dual camera setup. The iPhone 7 Plus is different in that it has an actual lens that is dedicated to getting you closer to the subject without digital zoom. The camera tech is the same from the G5 although a different focal length may have been used for the 16mp sensor as it is native 4:3 aspect ratio instead of the 16:9 aspect ratio used by the previous three flagship from LG. On top of that LG has only been sending preview units that mostly none of the YouTube reviewers have updated after their initial introduction and first look with the phone.

I was about to say,If this this has a 2x optical zoom. I would be all over it. The V20 is still on my short list of phones to get which are, V20, pixel xl (have to see what it's all about 1st) or a Nexus 6p. I am still rocking my Nexus 6 right now and still love it.

ps. I just changed those 3 settings (something like animations etc.) in developer options from 1x to .5x, man the Nexus 6 has some pep left in it!!

I agree on the awesomeness of the Nexus 6. But I'm looking at the V20/Pixel XL if my Nexus 6 bites the dust, hopefully not anytime soon!

I miss my Nexus 6. I'm currently on the note 7 and while it's a good phone I'm not satisfied with it. I loved my Nexus 6!! It was smoother, and snappier than the note 7.
