A13 Nightmare with internal storage!

So my device says storage dangerously low. I bought a micro SD card hoping this would free up internal storage....NOPE. I HATE THIS PHONE!!!!

Everything has been transferred to SD or an external hard drive. Do I need to now remove the SD card? Delete all photos, even though it says they're on the SD card? I have never had this problem with any other phone. I HATE THIS PHONE (did I already say that?)

I have gone to each app and either cleared the cache or cleared all data and I have also cleared the cache partition NUMEROUS times.

Can someone please help me before I smash this thing with a sledgehammer?!?!?

I called my carrier......absolutely no knowledge of how to remedy, so she gave me the Samsung Support number. I called them and they said I need to go to the nearest verified Samsung dealer (Best Buy) and have them do a "Software Reflash"

Not sure if anyone else has been given this guidance, but I thought I would share.

Welcome to Android Central.

There are a ton of guides online for how to get out of a low memory condition and they all contain a lot of the same advice. Google Android low memory to get thousands of results.

For me the place to start is backing up your pics and vids off of the device. Google offers automatic backups to Google Photos for free up to 15G, Samsung offers a backup service that starts free like Google's, your carrier might offer a backup service too or you could backup to a drive of some kind. The thing is just not to have all of your eggs in a fragile, easy to loose, tempting to have help walking away, basket. Backing up your media allows you to free up space on your device and in some cases still have it available for viewing on the device. Now let me step down from this soapbox.

Where were we... freeing up memory, that's right. I would take the SD out, plug it into a PC, be sure all of the pics and stuff are on there and then go in and be sure the they were deleted from the phone. Pics and video are likely the bulk of your memory usage so this should bring the device back to something reasonable. Other advice in those guides is stuff like deleting leftover folders from uninstalled apps, uninstalling apps, clearing caches and cache partition like you already did. They don't usually recommend clearing app data, as you may have found out, clearing app data usually means you will need to sign into accounts again, change all of those pesky settings we changed when we set up the app and stuff like that. A pain to say the least.

Here is the AC version of the guide... https://www.androidcentral.com/how-free-space-your-samsung-galaxy-phone

Welcome to Android Central! How much internal storage did the phone come with? If it's the 32 GB version, then that can fill up quickly these days, considering how big modern apps have become and how much additional storage they often need once they're installed. On top of that, Samsung is notorious for using up a fair amount of that storage for its own software/bloatware, such that upwards of 8-10 GB (or even more) might not be available to the user (typically, the Android OS takes up about 5-6 GB) -- you can see how much is used if you go to the Settings>Storage menu.

As discussed above, SD cards are mostly useful for media files and documents -- but those usually don't take up a huge amount of space. Some apps these days can require up to 1 GB or more of storage, and you can't use an SD card for app installation. Unfortunately, with a budget phone that has a small amount of internal storage, you have to temper your expectations -- this is not a flagship. Uninstall any app you don't use frequently.

I made you the owner of the original guest post to make it easier for you to find.

With no response from the OP, we’ll never know about the “dangerously low” warning message. My message is “Don’t believe or trust any message worded in that way.” It’s the sort of thing you’d expect from a developer trying to persuade you to install an undesirable storage cleaning app. A genuine warning, if there were one at all, would use sober, factual wording. There’s nothing “dangerous “ about low storage.

I feel like it may say "perilously sparse" memory. "Dangerously low" seems like odd phrasing.

I think I remember one of my older phones saying "freakishly low".... or it might have been "stupid low", I think that was one of my Motorola's trying to be hip lol.
