Abandoning Swype

With no updates and increasing frustration with the EVO version, I am going back to the standard keyboard. Swype somehow "learns" words such as "thst" plus an increasing amount of time having to re-swype over and over and then finally typing the word makes using it frustrating. If there was an easy way to look at the learned words and delete them I might still be using it, but its almost easier to touch type the letters now. I have cleared data for the swype application a few times to get a fresh start but it seems that over time it becomes more problematic.

I think the beta I had was much better than the version that wound up on standard on the EVO. Its too bad they don't make it available on the Market so updates would be easier than waiting for Sprint to push out updates.

I use Swype and will continue to use Swype but I completely agree with this statement. They desperately need a way to manage your dictionary.

You got to try the Flex T9 keyboard. I picked it up for free the other day in the Amazon app store. OMG, it does swype, WAY better than Swype!!!

+1 for Flex T9. Better than Swype, Swift, and Stock and any other contenders

I am noticing using swype is a pain outside on humid or hot days. My finger sticks to the screen rather then slides on it.

I agree one hundred percent! Swype is getting more and more annoying. Trying flex more.

I really liked swype and the concept behind it but the fact it picks up way too many words incorrectly just put me off way too much. I know there is a way to eliminate some incorrectly spelled words but it seems to hard to figure out. I was concerned with going back to the normal keyboard but the transition has been just fine.

Yeah, I forgot about that. I've been testing it with the TV on pretty loud and it still gets my text accurately.

+1 on FlexT9. And the voice dictation is based on dragonspeak, so it is awesome.

I'm using Flex T9. I like it a lot better than Swype or Swiftkey. The thing I loved about Swiftkey though was that it would "guess" what you're typing and then you could just pick that word. I wish there was a keyboard that combined the 2, that has the Swype input but also had the intuitiveness of Swiftkey.

You are exactly right. That would be the dream keyboard, Swift's predictive powers with Flex's swype and dictation ability. One other thing on my wishlist: shortcuts. On Palm there was a program call Shortcuts. You defined the trigger character and then could create text shortcuts. For example, if I typed ".em" my email address would appear. Sort of like autocorrect in Word. It worked in any program. I never had to type my password or username -- I just used shortcuts. I saw one keyboard on Android with this feature, but wasn't worth giving up swype and dictation of FlexT9.

I totally agree with you... I had the Beta and when the EVO got the update with Swype I noticed right away that the Beta version of Swype was way more accurate and polished than the EVO version. Although I don't remember if you could access remembered works. I'm now looking to try something different cause I'm getting sick of how much of a pain Swype is becoming to use... I hunt and peck more than I swype now. I'll have to give T9 a shot.

I actually prefer Smart Keyboard pro. It doesn't have the swype like feature/option but its my preferred keyboard. I'm also trying out the new swiftkey beta. So far It's pretty good.

I really like SwiftKey and have been using the beta builds and it has gotten even better. I agree that a combo between a swype type of keyboard with the prediction of SwiftKey would be a killer app.
