Hi just recently purchased a nexus one that has been rooted. The problem is the persons email that previously owned the phone is still on it so it wont let me go into the market and I keep getting a sign in error for his gmail account in the status bar. I tried deleting it but it ask for the password which I don't have. I was wondering if I can do a factory reset or will that mess the whole root or damage the phone since its rooted. I was thinking if I do a factory reset then I can start off fresh with my email. Here is what the phone has on it in settings:

Firmware Version: 2.1-update1

Baseband Version: 32.26.00.24u_4.04.00.03_2

Kernel Version: 2.6.33-cyanogenmod normal@ubuntv#2

Mod Version: Cyanogen_5.0.4.1_OverMod

Build Number: ERE36B

i would flash cyan 5.0.6. you can find it at cyanogenmod.com , download it to the device. Reboot into recovery, press the power button, down vol, trackball at the same time, once it goes black hold the power button and the trackball. bootloader, recovery, flash from sd, select the new version and flash. no need to wipe but you can if you want. You will have to rreenter all the info and set everything up. that will allow you to enter your email. Should be good to go and you're on the latest version. I'm going on a bike ride and will be back in a few hours so if you need help there are plenty of folks here that can assist you if you happen to run into any issues. I'll check back when i get back in. Hope that helps. This will not affect root.

You can boot into recovery mode and wipe it from there (or do the reset on the regular OS) either way you wont lose root or the flashed ROM. I can't believe the seller didn't do that but no biggie.

Also once you get in the market, there are a couple of ROM update apps that do everything for you.
