Well hello guys, first to say that, im right now a completely android n00b, though i have some experience with desktop linux, here's the thing, im right now in the process of choosing my first ever android tablet, and i've been doing my homework, i've researched a lot trough this days, heck i even learned "the teory" of rooting some divices, and i've come to a few posible candidates, note that while i know that for the price range i can get something better, i'm not in USA, but in a third world country, i also must say, that the device i'm getting, is going to be my main pc/laptop if you want to call it that way, so, right know with my budget, which is 12000 of my local money, more or lest 279 US$, i have come to this 3 as my posible choices:
The nexus 7 2013 16 Gb edition
The galaxy tab 3 2013 8"(the one that has 2 gb of ram)
The galaxy note 8.0
If still available by the time i get the money(in december) (thirdteen salary) the Lg g pad 8.3

Of the four, the nexus 7, is the best in terms of price/preformane, but trough my investigation i've come to find certain things about it, the known issues: random reboots, touch screen mistbehaving(this is critical for me), gps not working, going slow after certain time of use, battery draining while connect to the wall plug(lol wut?, if this is true, i'm not getting it, i like to use my **** connected to external power whenever is available, because in my country we have regular 5 to 10 blackouts, daily, so is a need for me, to be able to use it while is charging).

I've come across alot of complaings about this issues, though, the store will give me warranty, i wish to know, are those issues, just case of bad luck bryans out there, or this issues are present in the majority of nexus 7? Please note, that i, after watching and reading some tutorial, i'm not afraid of rooting, install the custom recovery, and unlocking the bootloader, it's pretty much just follow the instructions step by step, i've flash iphones, and some feature phones, so, basically what's stoping of choosing the nexus 7, are the complains i've read trough the internet, so i would like to know, from people that has have the tablet for a long time now(6 month+ at least), can you confirm if this issues are real, and common?

At least with samsung, i get real proven quality that i've seen with my own eyes, my room mates has a galaxy s2, and a friend has a galaxy tab 3, and while is true that they are somewhat slow, the hardware part is working 100%, which is my biggest concern, rather than a fast device, i want a device that last.

On a side question: OTG, the reason i mentioned rooting before, is because, while i've read that you can buy nexus importer and have access to read/writte capabilities trough usb, that's not enough info for me, i want to go further, trough OTG, could you posibly install apps and game to an external usb memory? let's say gta san andreas, nova 3, modern combat 5, rather than in the tablets internal memory, is this posible?, i've been browsing XDA but i haven't been able to find anything about it. Also, i've read here that Android L is going give a hard time with the rooting, and that android 4.4 broke some apps on sd card, so, as unlocking the bootloader voids warranty, i need to be certain about the quality of the device of my choosing

Thank you for reading, and please excuse me for any ortographic error, as english is not my mother toungue. Sincerely, a future Android User

Hello and welcome to the forums!

I'm no XDA guru but I don't believe that you can use USB-on-the-go like an SD card (i.e. to install apps and app data). You could use it to store music, pictures and movies, or other miscellaneous file types.

I've had a refurbished N7 2013 since March 2014 and haven't had any of the problems that others have mentioned. I have encountered the odd random reboot but it's always been while using the Netflix app (usually after the first episode that I happened to be streaming finished, just before the next one started).

I have used the Slimport capability to display content on a bigger screen, and that has worked well.

I've also used the USB-on-the-go capability to view pictures on an external HDD and that worked as well.

If you're in an area where power is unreliable I'd suggest purchasing an external power bank (Anker makes some good ones) and charging that, then using it to charge your phone/tablet: it's portable, so you're not stuck being next to a wall outlet, and you don't have to worry about brownouts or power spikes damaging your device.

But i'm stuck at being poor

I've had all the problems you mention with mine plus more. I would not ever buy another ASUS product again - I realize you can get a lemon from anybody, but their customer service is the worst of any company I've ever dealt with. I've got a three year old Kindle Fire and my wife has a four year old iPad both of which have had a lot of use and no issues like I've had with the N7. I've had great luck with Samsung products and would recommend you go that route. I almost bought the Samsung, but got sucked into the N7 being the tablet of the year. Yeah, right. Headache of the year is more like it.

My wife and mother in law both have the 16 GB Wi-Fi versions and I have the LTE version. None of us have experienced any of the issues I have read about.... Knock on wood.

My 2013 Nexus 7 has been pretty much flawless for over a year. If I had to gauge by the number and frequency of issues raised on these forums, I'd say that Samsung devices have as many issues as Asus devices, if not more.

I have had my Nexus 7 for about a year now.....ZERO problems. I bought a case with an external keyboard (from Bear Motion) and use it almost exclusively while at home. I rarely even turn my desk top PC on anymore. You are correct that there are lemons in every batch of electronics. Keep in mind that on average people will complain about a bad product 10 times more than they will praise a good product. If you look at the forums of the other tablets you have listed, you will also find people who got lemons----it is inevitable. I would buy the Nexus 7 TODAY if I was looking for a new tablet.
