Absolutely cannot obtain MSL code please help!

Hello I've seen a couple people give a couple different methods for getting the msl or service code for their virgin mobile optimus slider. Unfortunately I cannot get a single one to work, I tried calling VM they wouldn't give it to me, I tried cdma workshop which I cant even figure out how to connect to the phone, I'm assuming I'm missing a driver, tried using alogcat with filtering for MSL, msl, SEC, SRC, SEC_Code, none of them turn up anything its always just a blank screen yet everyone sais this works. Ive been trying for days with no luck at all so if anyone has successfully got their MSL code on an unrooted optimus slider I would greatly appreciate any help.
