Access My S3 With Dead Screen

My daughter's S3 has a broken screen. Touch does not work nor does the LCD. She has a lock screen on her phone so I cannot access it with Kies or any other PC software.

I bought an HDMI and USB adapter thinking I could see the phone screen on my TV and use the mouse to enter the code and then turn it off so I can use Kies to transfer her photos.

I connected the adapter and got the image on the TV. However, when I connected the USB mouse, I got nothing. No pointer at all.

Should this be possible with such an adapter?

It should be. I haven't tried a mouse, but my Note 3 S Pen pointer hows on the TV when I mirror the screen.

Try clicking and moving the mouse and see if anything happens. If it does, your only problem is no mouse pointer, which makes it more difficult, not impossible.

Thanks, I did see that post, but I needed to do more than simply unlock the phone. I wanted to unlock it, disable the screen lock and turn on screen debugging so that I could then plug it into a PC and retrieve her pictures.

I found on the reviews of some similar adapters users were saying that you had to plug things in a certain order. I tried on my Galaxy Tab Pro and was able to get both to work, but only if I plugged the power to the adapter, then the mouse, then the HDMI. Any other order, nothing. On the S3 it wouldn't work. If I plugged the HDMI in first, I'd get an image on the TV, but the mouse wouldn't work. If I'lugged the mouse in first, once I plugged the HDMI in the image wouldn't come up. No way to know if the mouse was working.

Thankfully, I had a spare S3 at home (my old phone) and I was able to open both up and swap her motherboard into the other S3 chassis. It powered up as her phone and I was able to get everything downloaded off of it. It was surprisingly easy, I should have done that first.

If phone had samsung account setup prior, it would have been possible to unlock phone remotely from samsung's website.
