Accidentally Tapped Potentially Malicious Ad

Hello all, first post here
This morning, while I was still tired, I was browsing the web on my phone (Samsung S6) when I accidentally tapped a pop up add. A downloading icon briefly appeared in the top bar, only for a second though. I can't find an recent download indicating what this was, though I know sometimes updating apps do this. Also, it showed the icon for having an incognito tab open in Chrome, when I didn't have any tabs, normal or incognito, open at the time.

So if some malicious software has been downloaded onto my phone, what can I do about it and what safety steps should be taken with accounts and such?

Welcome to Android Central! It's very unlikely that you'll have a problem, as long as you didn't accept an installation (especially if Unknown Sources is turned off).

Use a file manager app to look directly in the /Download directory. Anything there?
