Accuracy of LG Health app?

Has anyone checked the accuracy of the distance walked as measured by the LG Health app? I walk around at work all day and walk my dog twice, but am having a hard time believing what it says I've walked so far today so far. As far as I know, I have my GPS Mode set to high accuracy, and set the Fitness Tracker to start recording after I got to work (so no measuring my car drive to work).

I've counted my steps to 500 without looking at the app, stop, look at the app and it'd be accurate. I don't know about larger numbers because I just don't usually have the will power to count to 3,000. haha

But for me it seems like it's been pretty accurate, and a good reminder to take a break from my computer and go on a mid-day walk.

I haven't paid too much attention to the steps, but looking at the miles I've walked. I am trying to find the little electronic pedometer I have to double check it. That one had to be calibrated by taking so many steps at my normal walking pace, then measuring the distance with a tape measure. I'm sure LG's uses GPS, since it never asked for calibration, but have no idea how accurate GPS is on this scale...says I've walked 16 miles so far...really??

I think you'd know if you'd walked 16 miles :)

Like Jeremiah, I've counted steps while walking with the phone in my pocket, and it matched what the phone measured. But I just look at the steps, I did not actually know it could also measure distance until reading your post. I usually keep my GPS off during the day, so I doubt the distance reading would be very useful for me. Plus I'm inside most of the time.

Maybe your GPS is getting bad readings due to a weak signal, and it sees your location as jumping around?

I've done 3-5 miles a day when I would do a hike.. and I did 16 miles one day when I went to comic-con.. Walking through public transit stations, and walking through download AND walking in the convention center. I was surprised at the number but I definitely felt it the next morning. hahah

Exactly to both of you...It must be because I'm inside the GPS is off? I left Data on and GPS on High Accuracy just to see what it came up with. I wish I had time to walk 16 miles in a day...knock off some of the, uh, extra pounds I've put on ;). I just checked # of steps...somethings way off...it says I've taken 34,773, by only 3:00 PM! Yesterday it was 6172 for the entire day.

hmm... do you work on your feet? I'd imagine those numbers will be attributed to a mail man or a UPS truck driver. hah

My shop is a long building, so I do walk a bit (especially when I keep forgetting where I put something down and have to go back and forth looking for it!). I did a little test as I started my dog walk - walked 100 steps, but it showed 120. I will read up more on the app to see how it works. I just wasn't sure if GPS, even set to High Accuracy, works at the level to measure small increments like feet or 1/8th of a mile, for that matter. For fun, I should measure a one mile distance with my car's odometer and walk it to see what the G4 comes up with.

I think for the most part it is but don't think it's completely accurate. If you tap the phone it counts as steps. I tried it cause I didn't believe what it was telling me.

Yesterday, I gently shook the phone in ten, deliberate motions to simulate walking. It counted 18 steps. Just now, it counted 10. Must be the update Jeremiah mentioned.

How does LG health know when to count steps.Does it actually count steps or does it calculate steps based on distance covered. TRhe how would LG health discount distance covered while in a moving car?

Its going by vibration not distance, you can shake or tap the phone and it will increment up a step.
