DX ordered and will be here Friday. Upgraded on a secondary line that currently uses a dumb phone. The DX will replace my BB Tour which is the primary line. When received, should I activate then do the ESN change online or just take it to a VZW store and let them handle? I don't want the data package on the secondary line.

You should just be able to dial *228 and activate it that way. It'll ask you the phone number you want to activate it on and then the PIN on your account if you've set one up and then you're all good. I'm not sure when they implemented the 228 activations, but it's a hellova lot easier than the online ESN changer. Of course this will only work if you currently have a smartphone on your account with a data plan. If you don't...then you're going in store or calling 611.

You have to activate it on the line you bought first. Then call again activate it your bb line

*228 on the DX, press 1, type in your phone number, then your billing password. After, activate with the different number on the BB

I did the exact same thing. This is positive, but I hear moosc's argument.

When upgrading the dumb phone, we needed to select a data plan. Will this somehow just be "forgotten" with the *228 method you suggest?

I thought I heard in the past that full retail will be charged unless the phone is activated on the line that was upgraded - even if it just be for a few minutes.

If you do not activate on the line you bought you will be charged early termination fee.

Not true. You only have to accept the terms and conditions, doesnt have to be activated. As long as it's the same account you can activate the phone on whatever number you want. Chances are because you're going from a BB to a Droid you'll have to go through customer service. Try the *228 opt 1 and just put in the # you want.

Interesting. So to my point, is the data plan added to the secondary line during ordering just lost and forgotten?
