adb: unable to connect for backup

I am on stock ROM- Gingerbread, have adb installed on my PC, and works.But when wnat use NAND backup via adb, I get this adb: unable to connect for backup.

My question is , did can make NAND backup via ADB on Gingerbread system, or this only can on ICS-JB system, via adb.

Confuse me this, everythings other works(adb command) only for nand backup dont works.

That kind of backup is only for Android (4.0+) devices.

For anyone reciving this error on a device that is 4.0+: What fixed it for me was to add a -d to the command before 'backup' the -d command "Directs command to the only connected USB device" for example the command, with this fix, will now look like:

adb -d backup -apk -shared -all -f C:\Users\NAME\backup.ab

Hope this works for someone having the same issue I had.
