Switching from AT&T to Verizon/Pixel XL I am surprised to find that _all_ my phone numbers need to have Area Codes. This wasn't necessary before. Is there a blanket way to up date all the local numbers or an app to do this without having to select, edit and save each one?

I "waded" thru my Google contacts list and updated all the local numbers that didn't have an area code.
Funny in some cases where there was a dupe (snd I don't recall adding any twice) I was able to delete one copy. But not in others. What the difference was was certainly not apparent to me.

When I chose the US area code google put "+1" on every number. Ok, I haven't any foreigners numbers in my contact list, but that "+" was a surprise. I would have expected a dash after the 1. Guess I'm just old school.

Weird, I thought all phones numbers in the US required area codes now?? At least thats how it is in FL.

I'm in Fla and didn't need an area code for local calls, with AT&T, until I changed to Verizon (duh).

Hmmmmmmmm I use to be on verizon and always need area codes to dial numbers. How do they know if you are dialing 305 or 786??

When the area code is different it must be specified.

This now varies by carrier and phone network. Going back several years in the New England area, Sprint calls would not go through without an area code, even within the same code as the phone's number.
