Adding Custom KEYS to Keyboards

AI Type keyboard (https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ls?id=com.aitype.android&hl=en&token=K0KKrtbg) allows me to create my own custom keys, however it concentrates on themes and not fixing the many bugs it has.

I'm looking for an alternative keyboard that:

(1) Allows me to create new keys with long press alternatives (like AI type does)
(2) I'd also like to configure the long press symbols available on keys
(3) Possibly a template key for often used text

Basically modify the keyboard more than the look and feel.

Any alternatives? My Nexus 6P is rooted but would prefer options that don't require root.

On older Samsungs (Note 4) running Lollipop, you could set long-press shortcuts on the number keys. So you could store upto 10 such "quick texts." I don't know if this feature is implemented on newer phones and/or firmwares, as my Samsung Galaxy S6 stock keyboard has a different method for "quick texts" (it replaces phrases).
