can I use the upgrade from a dumbphone, put my sim in then cancel the data plan on that line?

I went to transfer the upgrade over and it is trying to make me drop my unlimited so I am wondering if this would work?

Not sure what carrier you have, but with ATT it's no problem. That's how I upgraded to the N3. I had an equipment upgrade on one of my $10 add-on lines with no data plan, and just used the equipment upgrade from that line. ATT gave me a new SIM too.

Also last year, I was able to use an equipment upgrade from a different account too. (wifes)

I am on verizon, I placed the order and plan on just throwing my sim in it then dropping the data plan off the wifes line, it would not let me transfer the upgrade to my line without dropping my unlimited plan

yes, i upgraded my dumbphone line....will activate it....then just replace that newly activated sim with your sim....then *228 on the dumbphone to reactivate that line to the dumbphone.

Should be fine.

Sent from my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II via Tapatalk 4

Thanks
should I activate it with the sim they send or just pop mine in? Will that matter? The wife will have her phone at work and I dont want to have her phone shut off on her until she gets home......but I will if I have to ;)

you have to activate on the dumbphone line so yes you have to use the new sim......it has gotten more complicated to jump through these hoops.....took me quite a while today but worth it to keep unlimited.
from your online verizon account you select activate a phone....then select the dumbphone line....then i had to select something like "switch to a new phone" vs" switch to an existing phone". at some point you have to put in the new sim card number.....then at some point it will prompt you to turn on the note 3 with the new sim in it. the activation takes quite a while.

once that is done and the phone is actually activated on the dumbphone line.....you can then pop out the sim (don't mix up with yours).....go back onto your verizon account and once again select activate a phone.....select the dumbphone line (mine never updated to show the note 3, just showed lg cosmos the whole time)....this time select "switch to a phone used before" and then chose the dumb phone from the drop down list, if its not listed there you can "switch to a new phone" and then put in the phones id number from under the battery. do the *228 activation and select 1.....the dumbphone line should then be back to the dumbphone.

then back once again to the verizon account and for the last time select activate a phone, choose your phone line....i had to select the "switch to a new phone" since the note 3 didn't show up in the list of previous phones on the account.....i put in the note 3's id number from under the battery, you should then be prompted to put your sim in and boot up the phone. should activate and be good to go.

was a hassle but like i say, worth it to keep unlimited. thanks verizon for all of the hoops to jump through!!
