I was just curious if anyone has heard if Verizon will charge extra for their 4g on top of the regular data plan?

I am actually getting hosed on my data plan. My wife and I together use around 1.5 GB on a heavy data month, and I'm paying $60 a month for two phones to have data. I do most of my data heavy stuff on wifi just because it's faster... Point being if they offered say $15 per gig and billed by what I actually use, I'd be paying about $20 to $30 a month for both instead of $60...

I seem to recall someone telling me Verizon wants to start using everything over 4g, voice and data. If that is the case I don't believe they would charge more for the phone to be able to make calls.

That is off in the future. They will have to make all phones use CDMA for now just because the footprint of LTE will be so small. And having to try and pass the phone from one network to the other could cause problems. Once they are nationwide with it, end of 2013. Then I am sure it will be all on the 4G freqs. provided they don't think it is better to have a CDMA radio and use LTE only for data.

They can't charge significantly more or else the LTE devices simply won't sell, especially with the iphone coming.

I am considering switching Verizon from Sprint (to possibly save money with the FiOS QuadPlay). Right now I have the Evo, if I do switch and Verizon does not have a "premium data" charge I will get the Thunderbolt

There will only be 2 Lte plans. It's 10 bucks a gig but they only will offer two plans a five gig and an eight gig $50 and $80 and if you go over it will auto charge you ten for an extra gig

Is this an assumption or do you have a source for your shared info?

If the was a plan for a 5gb data plan, I don't think it would be $50. Even the 8 gb you mentioned would never sell at $80. I have a base plan. $40 calling plan, $10 texting plan and the $30 data plan + tax = aprox $95. If they charged me an additional $20 for a gb 4g data plan then i would go to another carrier.

IMPORTANT: Unless you have a credible source, please make sure you stat that what you are saying is not fact or please say that it is an assumption. By not doing that people will assume that you are stating a fact when it isn't and then that's when threads go wrong :p. Thank you

i spoke to a verizon employee as my city was added to 4g list an asked about the t-bolt an extra cost for 4g, she said as of right now there is no plan to charge extra for having a 4g capable phone. if you have unlimited data plan there is nothing to worry about. i also asked about tiered data she basically just said we only offer unlimited or 150mb plan. so as long as unlimited data is available when t-bolt drops im good

Sweet i was in phone mode when i read that post i wasn't thinking about the thumb drive if its still 30 a month i will be so happy

Those are mobile broadband connections and are the same price as the 3G ones.

Verizon Wireless - Mobile Broadband - Plans

So since they did not increase the price on it I think it is safe to assume that they will not change things for smartphones atleast yet.

Yeah, it's great news that the mobile broadband pricing has stayed the same. That makes it more likely that handset 4G will stay the same as well.

And yeah, if it needs reiteration, that pricing is for mobile broadband for computers (and probably tablets when 4G tablets emerge). It's not for handsets, and there's no reason to believe that it is for handsets.

If i got a phone like the Thunderbolt is it mandatory for me to get the 4g plan? I live in Boston but go to school in New Hampshire so there is no point in paying for 4g when i can only use it a few months.

Blackmanx here in the forums, leads me to believe it will be like sprints. So yes you have to the 4G whether you can recieve a Lte connection or not. Now I dont know how he knows his Info but you kinda get the feeling he has an insider point of view in some way IDK.

VZW is currently offering a new data plan, $15 for 150 MB. If you go over the 150 MB limit, however, then they automatically charge you another $15 but give you another 150 MB. I switched to this plan myself a month ago but was able to take advantage of the special $20 discount promo on each unlimited data plan after that, so now I'm only paying $10 for unlimited data on each line. Had to threaten to cancel my service, though, lol. If it wasn't for that, I'd probably be on Sprint or T-Mobile right now.

Have you not read the thread? There has not been any info. released on whether or not VZW will charge you extra for LTE. However, one poster said that the rep. they spoke to said that VZW will not charge you extra for LTE. So as the rumor stands, it appears that VZW will not charge us extra for LTE.
