Adjusting volume from the lock screen

When I switched to the HTC One from the iPhone it was annoying that I no longer has a simply sound/vibrate switch anymore. It ended up not being THAT big a deal though since I was able to simply adjust the volume and/or sound profile of the device by waking it up and pushing the volume buttons. However on the Nexus 5, it's been quite frustrating because the only way to adjust the volume of the device is to wake up the device, unlock it and THEN adjust the volume. Not sure why Google would force you to take 3 separate steps to simply change the volume but it doesn't make much sense. Are there any apps or other tweaks (without being forced to root) that will allow me to adjust to volume from the lock screen (or even with the screen off)?! Thanks.

i personally dont think its a big deal to unlock it to adjust volume. otherwise you could be inadvertantly turning your volume up and down in your pocket by accidentally pushing volume buttons...

its funny how lazy we have become that it is a hassel to unlock a phone to adjust volume... nothing against you, but i find it silly the things we complain about sometimes

If you hold down the power button while on the lock screen you can change to silent or vibrate or speaker.

Nothing to do with being lazy. It's simply an inconvenience and annoying for the amount of times I do it per day. With all the customization options on Android I'm quite surprised this hasn't been addressed.

but like i said, it would be easy to accidentally adjust volume in your pocket by buttons getting mashed

Not sure if I am understanding you right, but I can control the volume without waking the phone, I can adjust the volume with the volume rocker with the screen off

That was one of the things I missed when I used an iPhone as my personal phone. An alternative I use on my Nexus 5 is to download Power Toggles and set up a toggle widget on the lockscreen. That way when I need to quickly switch to vibrate or silent I just wake the screen and tap on the toggle.

Or you can wake the screen up and then hold the power button to get to the system volume toggle.

Sent from my mobile device using an app.

I listen to music and podcasts every day and am able to adjust the volume with the screen off by using the volume rocker.

Okay, I haven't gotten lazy okay? My volume button fell off at school and I have no idea where it went. The volume button also holds my SIM card, but luckily I didn't have one. So I'm not lazy, I'm just unable to adjust my friggin' volume with the buttons anymore.
