Tonight I got a notification on my thunderbolt. It was a star and when I checked it, it led me to a page that said I may have won an ipad 2... Clearly its an ad of some sort but where is it coming from? Id like to ditch whatever app is causing this ridiculousness asap. Thanks

You might have an app using AirPush. AirPush Detector is in the Market. Mine hasn't found one yet, but I haven't experienced what you have. I hope this helps you.

Do you use Announcify? I use that and it took me forever to realize that was the culprit. Somewhere in the program it states it will periodically push ad notifications to you in return for using the free version of the app.

The "Zappos" shopping app (which I like a lot) does something like this, but not on the notification bar. While I was cruising Android Central home page on both my Laptop and my TBolt (looking for something else) I noticed that the banner ad on the very top was on my phone but not on the Laptop. So I looked closer and found that the ad was from Zappos. I checked it out closer and found that the app had an arrow leading to an "opt out" selection, which I did. And it worked.

Just something else to look for in "free" apps.

I don't use Announcify or have anything using AirPush that I know of, or the Zappos app. It has only happened once so far. I didn't follow the add just bc I'm so used to avoiding something like that on my computer. In the back of my mind I wasn't sure if I could screw myself more by clicking on it. Ill try the detector and see what happens.

Edit: As I submitted that comment I got another one....

So, no AirPush found. Recently installed apps are:

@tdizzle

Next time the star appears, click the ad and see which app name appears in the upper left-hand corner (as it takes you to the Market to view the app it's advertising).
Then delete that app.

I've seen numerous reports about different apps causing this so its hard to say which one its going to be but doing what I said above will lead you to the culprit app.
I'm guessing its going to be the game par 72 golf... let us know which one it is when you figure it out.

I did click the notification but the page it brings up says the same thing and requires a phone number so that's where I stopped. I'll put in a fake number and let you guys know the next time it comes up.

I don't have any of the apps you have listed so I can't help narrow it down. Are you running Lookout Security or another anti-virus app? When it asked for you number makes me think it's malware.

I suspect the developer of Flying Penguin. I had the same issue but it only happened twice, and none since then. I use ATK, so maybe that had helped stop those notifications since it's rarely running (my kids like the Dragon game better!).
