After 10 years with an iPhone, I've made the switch...

Hi all!

As the title suggests, I've been an iPhone user for the last ten years!

As of last Friday, I'm now a Samsung/Android user.

It's different but I'm enjoying it so far...still a lot to learn!

Any hints/tips/advice welcome

What would people say is the best email client? I'm so used to the Apple Mail and it worked brilliantly but I've only got Gmail set up on the Samsung which I've never been a fan of...

There were a variety of things to be honest. The main one being the expense of the new iPhones. I guess, again if I'm being honest, I've had a new iPhone every two years for the last ten years but I haven't really if that makes sense...it's just the same OS in a different shell.

I was always curious about Android and I've never been a hater/lover of one or another but Android just seems a bit more polished up now so I thought I would give it a try.

I guess also that I've just become a bit disillusioned with Apple. It really grinds my gears how they just expect you to deal with what they are offering you know? My way or the highway type thing.

AquaMail, Maildroid and Outlook are all excellent. I am currently using the Outlook email client and find it excellent. And it is free.

I use Microsoft Outlook.
I have my own email server on GoDaddy.
That way I get to use my own name for my email address.
That lets me have an email address like john@johnsmith.com.

Welcome to the AC Forums! And it depends on what kind of e-mail you have, but I thoroughly enjoy Nine for my Exchange account. I believe it now supports other types of accounts, but I'm still sticking to the GMail app for that one.

I'd recommend that you ease yourself into your transition. There are a lot of different customizations for Android - maybe just do one or two different functions or things a day; like changing your wallpaper.

Also, I highly recommend downloading Zedge - it has a ton of ringtones, wallpapers, notification tones, and icon packs! It's very useful for setting ringtones for your contacts!

I've gone for the Ocean Blue Note9 512gb model.

The only thing I'm trying to adjust to is not having a physical home button.
I find the fact that there's an Always On Display, then a lock screen, then your home screen a tad excessive.
I'm really missing reachability, was probably my most used convenience on iPhone.

Other than that, loving it...so far...

Launchers my friend. Google and read/YouTube tutorials regarding info. You can make your device look any way you want. Your not tied down to any interface.

I recommend using Nova launcher. I've been using it from the day I switched from iOs to Android. I find it simple and easy to use but also the customization capabilities are virtually endless. That way, you can make your phone look and act the way you want. And... You can backup your settings in case you change devices or get another one. However, there are many other great launcher besides Nova. It's kind of what you get used to.

Great choice!

I went with the blue one too, but only 128 GB.
Since I normally change phones every year I don't need so much storage, besides, I also have the option of a 64 GB or a 128 GB micro SD cards.
You can turn off the AOD (always on display) easily.
Bring down the notifications bar once, then again, if you don't see the AOD icon, swipe those icons to the left and it should be in there in blue, meaning is on, touch it, it'll turn white, meaning it's off now.
The fact that I can have different wallpapers on the lock screen and the home screen is great for me.
For example, I can have whatever wallpaper I like every day or every week on the lock screen.
But on the home screen, I have a pic of my 2 kids.
Now about the home button, there's one on the display, even even you don't see that white square. Whenever you're on a website or different page, just press in the middle at the bottom of the display where that white square normally is.
You'll feel that it kinda clicks and it'll take you to the home screen.
