if you pay full retail for the device?

That's the understanding. You may have to call them to confirm, but the way I read it is if you pay full retail price, or buy a phone from Ebay or similar and activate it, you will not be signing or extending your contract so you should be able to keep your unlimited data.

However, VZW can and will change your contract at any time with proper notification.

Our VZW rep at BBYM informed us that bringing your own device is the ONLY way to keep unlimited data after the 28th.

what i didn't realize was that this even effects the single guy with no family plan as well. If I upgrade through verizon, I will lose my unlimited data?

Re: After 6/28 Can a 3G Be Upgraded to a 4G and Keep Unlimited Da

So, I tried to upgrade my original 3g Droid today to the 4g Droid 4, and apparently I can't keep my unlimited data plan because I missed the cutoff by a day. I have been due for an upgrade since last year, and I am on a family plan.

My question is:
Since you can keep your unlimited data plan if you don't buy the phone subsidized from verizon/retailer, can I transfer my upgrade to my mom (who just got a Droid Incredible (4g) and kept her unlimited plan, so that she can get a new phone, and then I activate her Droid incredible on my line to keep her and my unlimited data plans and both have 4G?

You can't. Your mom would lose unlimited.

Right, so she would lose it because she is buying a phone at a subsidized price after 6/28. OK, but I would retain unlimited 4G data until the next time I decided to upgrade at a subsidized price?

I use more bandwidth than her I am sure, so that might work out.

If your mom doesn't use more than 2gb a month you can upgrade her line and take the tiered 2gb data then reactivate her old phone and activate the new one on your line.
