After attempting to flash a ROM all apps force close

So I attempted to flash Incredibly Re-Engineered 2.3 on my Incredible, I've had no problems flashing or rooting my phone. I was having no success with CWM 3.0.0.8 so I tried 3.0.0.7 (because I had hear reports of it working. Upon trying it my phone would not boot into that installation screen after the HTC Incredible screen. The screen went black with two white thick lines along the sides. And remained there for a very long period of time. I managed to get my phone booted back up, but all my apps are gone. When I go in the market to install apps like ROM Manager, Titanium Backup, or ASTRO, I can download and install them, but whenever they are opened they immediately force close. If I reboot the phone or reinstall the apps, the same thing occurs. I tried Factory resetting by holding Vol Down and Power on boot... but no luck. I keep getting that black screen with white borders on the side.

Help please!

Just attempted recovery with Quick Boot as well... I get the black screen white border deal as well.

You have a nandroid backup from before everything went wrong?
I would try to download recovery and put it on the sd card, and then flash it from fastboot (see link)
http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc.../64287-how-downgrade-cwm-not-rom-manager.html
then if that works you can just restore your nandroid back up and be ok.

edit
i just tested the link and it's coming up broken but search the forums for "how to downgrade cwm NOT in rom manager" that's the post.

You sir are fabulous... not sure why I didn't think of that. Got phone back to the working order I like...

Next time you flash a ROM (do this in Clockworkmod, not ROM manager):

Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Wipe Cache Partition
Advanced > Wipe Dalvik Cache

It sounds like you didn't do any of these things. You must always do a full wipe before flashing a ROM. It's a pain, and you have to restore all your apps, contacts, etc, but it's better than having this happen to your phone. I'm surprised your ROM even booted up. The last time I forgot to do this, I just got stuck in a boot loop.

Not bad advice, BUT i have *and others too* have had more issues using CWM and ROMmanager (which are the same thing :) ) for doing full flashes... the only thing i use CWM/ROMManager is to make and manage my nandroid backups...

I generally power my phone down then go into Manual mode (volume down + power)
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Wipe Cache Partition
Advanced > Wipe Dalvik Cache
then install zip from SD card
optional(depends on ROM) installing zip of KERNEL
then reboot and your good to go..

don't get me wrong, your method is good to but when most problem go wrong they go wrong in CWM.

Uh, I hate to destroy your thunder, but this "manual mode" is the custom recovery, which is clockworkmod, and the advice you gave the op is the exact same advice I did.

ROM Manager is developed by the same devs as Clockworkmod, which is why it has "Clockworkmod" where the dev name usually goes. However, Clockworkmod is also the name of the recovery used in most rooted phones these days (Amon Ra is another custom recovery, but it's less common).

Trust me, the stock recovery looks nothing like that. If you go to recovery from hboot on an unrooted phone, you'll just get a picture of the phone with a red triangle with an exclamation mark inside.

FIRST OF ALL... I really do think that you enjoy destroying THUNDER or whatever.... I was just trying to be helpful and I KNOW that they are both the same (CWM and Manual) im not stupid, as it would seem that you think I am by the rude tone in your response.

that being said, perhaps I should have read alittle more into your vague answer...

I didn't mean for you to take offense. Sorry. No need to get defensive.

However, your post did look like it was trying to contradict mine, and it didn't do that at all, it was meant merely to clarify a point (what Clockworkmod is). Also, you clearly said that Clockworkmod and ROM manager are the same thing, which isn't true.

you said that you Sold your DINC... was is rooted or did you return it to stock first... If you returned it to stock, then How did you do that.. I need exact directions to return it to stock and im talking S-ON and the whole 9 ;)

That one i returned to stock, s-on, and factory settings. I did it with the unroot sticky's directions, which were perfect and simple. It really wasn't any trouble, it just took about 15 minutes.
