After owning the s3 for about 3 months, I'm not impressed with some things

I've been having some problems with this phone and they are getting quite annoying, could be an error that I've made but here are some of them

Sixth why bring out a different phone, instead of trying to update the one already out? We got Jellybean, but what about the next update? With androids past I'm almost positive were going to be left in the dust

S2 is getting jelly bean too. so i hardly believe S3 will be forgotten. It will get KLP imo

Probably, but the reality of it is this: KLP will drop at some point this year (I forget what the actual schedule is), then Nexus devices will get it. Then, for a long time, nothing will happen. A few new phones/tablets will get released with the new OS, but for the most part the forums will just fill with threads like "Verizon Sucks! Where's KLP?!?". Then, *MAYBE* a few months after that leaks will start to come out, making it possible for rooted users to upgrade, but angry non-rooted users will still flood the forums with questions no one can answer. Then, in early 2014, if Samsung does prepare a KLP for the S3, it will be released. Of course, the update will screw up more phones than it improves and the S3's older technology will cause it to lag under the newer OS, but hey! we got KLP!

Not trying to be cynical, but as I posted above, when you buy a phone, you should do so not expecting any more than 1 -- maybe 2 if you're lucky -- major upgrades. (Nexus line excluded). The technology moves to fast, and the R&D and QA process for new updates take too long to get through manufacturers and carriers for it happen any other way, given how things work currently.

you are talking as if this only happens with S3. it happens with every phone except nexus. thats why many prefer taking the nexus route like i did.

Oh no, I wasn't singling out the S3, I was referring to pretty much any non-nexus device.

I'm about to root my phone so that I can get a good backup...I'm used to pretty effortless complete backups from my iPhone, but it seems that the only decent backups that you can get on an Android phone is by rooting it and using something like Titanium backup. I tried MyBackup Pro without root, and found that for things like "google authenticator", it would not backup the app settings, so when I had to do a factory reset, I needed to go and set it up both my gmail accounts in it all over again. This time I saved the qr codes to do that next time, but still, it is a pain. Backing up my phone with iTunes used to take care of that, when I restored the "google authenticator" app using iTunes, it was perfect, picked up where it had left off.

So I did just root my phone (first time for me), and finally have a decent backup. Also was able to freeze the Verizon apps and the "email" app, among others that were running at odd times, and get rid of a lot of ads. Also set the phone flash count back to 0. Figuring that we won't be getting another update for some time, but you never know.

Has helped with battery usage, and also not being able to decently backup a device that I've spent time configuring is a non-starter for me.
