after software upgrade, why can't I delete email on my Galaxy S6?

End of March, I downloaded the Marshmallow update on my Galaxy S6 and now when I delete email, it doesn't go away. (I am not using gmail. ) The only way I can delete email is to (1) delete email from inbox, then (2) quickly go to "trash' and delete the same emails, then (3) quickly go back to inbox. If I don';t do this, after deletion, the email re-appears the next time I open up the inbox. This method, cumbersome as it is, works 50% of the time. Before this life-saving software update, I hit "delete" and the emails went to the trash folder.
Any ideas?

Who's your email provider, and are you using their POP3 server? If so, I would suggest changing to their IMAP server, which would probably solve this issue indirectly. Read about the difference here: IMAP vs POP3
