I have an s8 and just got the 9.0 update a week or so ago. Now everytime I'm in game or while my phone is in my pocket, anytime the middle-bottom portion of my screen is hit, it either exits my game or cuts my phone on leading to unintended consequences. I.e. missed gaming opportunities or pocket dials. How can I disable that "hidden" home button entirely? I just want the option to swipe up from the bottom then press the home button like I had on oreo. Thanks for any help!

Samsung changed how the navigation bar works in Pie. You can still "hide" it, but it's more of a gesture now so that you swipe up at each spot to activate whatever that spot is for.

It no longer slides up the hidden bar where then you tap the button as it is for Oreo. It just stays hidden and you swipe up in the middle to close, swipe up on the bottom right to go back, swipe up on the bottom left for the recents list (I actually switched those around on my S8 and S9 to follow the standard Android layout). There's a faint bar along each spot on the bottom to let you know where to swipe. But, there's an option to turn that off if you want nothing along the bottom.

Go to "Settings" > "Display" > near the bottom "Navigation Bar" > "Navigation Type" section. And it shows you how it works. At the very bottom is the option to turn the "hints" off.

Takes a little getting used to, but because Google is trying to go all gestures in upcoming android versions, Samsung is just trying to get ahead of it.

@joeldf Thanks for getting back to me! I guess I can live with that for now but my main issue is with hitting that "hidden" home button. Is there anyway to remove it?

Not really. I guess it depends on how you are hitting that spot. In gesture mode, you have to slide up on that spot for it to do anything. Just a tap shouldn't do anything.

Do you hit it as easily if the nav bar is left on-screen? It may not be what you want, but if you see it peripherally, maybe your fingers will naturally avoid that area.

Just a thought. I don't have any other ideas.
