Air Gestures do not work on my note 3

My note 3's air gesture used to work and I use it to change music tracks or just scroll in gallery or webpages. Now the sensor doesn't work. The light next to the top phone speaker grill doesn't even light up anymore. I even tried to diagnosis it by dialing *#0*# and clicking sensor button and it continue to vibrate and show green screen even when I tried to wave and cover up the sensor. I checked elsewhere online and most people have said it could have been do to faulty hardware or dust.

I also thought it was a software issue so I factory reset it but the sensor still doesn't work. I tried pressing down on the speaker grill on top of the phone but it doesn't work either.

Any fix for this without having to return the phone? The sensor seems to be the only problem and air gestures is the only use for it. FYI, my phone isn't rooted and if it is rooted, it will void my warranty.

Probably the proximity sensor. People blow compressed air in the earpiece to rid the dust. It sometimes works for a bit, but ultimately it should be replaced. I am on my third note 3 for said issue.
