Alarm and sound issues with Huawei P10 Plus

Hello,

I just got this Huawei P10 plus and notice that my alarm doesn't actually sound when it is set. It goes off, I can see it on my home screen when I look at it first thing in the morning but it's not actually making sound - UNLESS I press the alarm notification, then I will hear my melody.

I have nothing blocked, nothing muted, alarm volume up all the way, I've made sure every, single, thing that could possibly be related to my alarm, sounds, or notifications are open and yet, it still will not actually sound when it goes off.

I'm frustrated because it's very difficult to get tech support from Huawei, their support number is international (I live in Canada) so I feel like I'm at a bit of a loss.

Before anyone suggests to me that I install a 3rd party app, I'd like to get this understood/remedied just based on principle. This is a brand new phone, and the alarm should work. Yes, I'm stubborn.

Relating to sound as well, I activated "OK Google" while I was sitting at a red light, to dictate a text message, I noticed that the little bouncy bars enabled, however, my phone was not speaking back to me. Again, nothing was muted, disabled, at a low volume.

My sound works otherwise, it rings, I can play music, I can hear power up tones, etc.

It's just these finicky issues that are driving me bonkers - I like it when a new phone actually does what it's supposed to.

I know you don't want to hear about 3rd party apps but maybe just testing one out to see if it makes a sound when it goes off. That'll tell you if the first party alarm app I'd not working or it's something more engrained in the os.

I can think of two things, because my alarms are flawless. Almost a bit better then on other phones I have had.

1) There is a setting in Alarms, Settings to allow alarms when sound is off. See the attached screenshot.

2) Make sure alarms are allowed in "do not disturb". Flipping the switch as described in 1 seems to more or less override the settings here, but always good to make sure.

If this doesn't help I don't know what else could be wrong. I hope you find a solution.

Update: I called my provider's tech support and we figured out that if DND was enabled - whether as a schedule or just arbitrarily, that it would not sound the alarm despite it being configured to allow alarms only.

So, that's annoying.

Now I'm going to do some more digging to see if there's a workaround.

Thanks, Snapphane! I just posted an update above, I found the problem and it did have to do with DND.

I assume you have a P10 Plus running Nougat, too? If so, can I ask you for a favour? Can you, just as an experiment, enable your DND to allow alarms-only, and then set your default alarm to go off while DND is enabled?

I know you mentioned your alarms were working flawlessly, but, our settings are exact (except I have snooze with the volume button), but I'm curious if your default alarm will still sound when your phone's DND is on, with alarms.

I'm really curious to see if you have the same issue as I'm having!

Yeah, Android 7.0 with the B170 build.

I have a similar setup to you, I'm running DND but I allow "priority notifications".

I switched to "only alarms" and for this one test my alarm rang as supposed. Not sure why yours isn't working. Try using a more "standard" ringtone, might be that the system doesn't like whatever you've picked?

Late for the party i know, but i just had the same issue.

Enabling "Priority display" in the Notifications settings of the Clock app seems to have fixed the problem.
