Album artwork & compilation problem

morning all, i have recently switched to android after many years with apple.

my 80gb music library was finely tuned in itunes but im having a few issues now that i have loaded music on to my samsung j5 2016.

most of these i can fix (i think!) but the one i am having the most problems with is getting album artwork uploaded. ive spent hours and hours researching and attempting to fix this but am now close to giving up.

some albums appear on my phone in the "play music app" without cover art. i have been to some of these album artwork finders apps and managed to locate the image i want. however, after selecting the image, the artwork only appears in the play music app when viewing my library by "songs". when i view under "albums" or "artists" there is no artwork showing at all.

The other thing driving me mad is that every artist from a compilation album appears as a stand-alone artist when i view by Artist.

EDIT - however, when i view a bona-fide artist by the Artist view i do want to see that artist's compilation songs too (but not the WHOLE of that compilation album).

eg I have some U2 studio albums. I also have a Xmas compilation album which contains a xmas song by u2. I want U2's xmas song to appear when i view U2 as an artist. Some apps can only seem to manage this by showing me the whole of the Xmas compilation as opposed to just U2's single song. soooooooo frustrating.

this is such a pain although feels like it should be really simple to fix. i love my new phone and REALLY don't want to go back to Apple but the music thing is important to me!

Welcome to Android Central! Are you using the stock Samsung music app, or the Google Play Music app? I would recommend uploading your entire iTunes collection to your Google Play Music library in the cloud (using either the Music Manager program or the Play Music website on Chrome). Once music is uploaded to your Play Music library, it's pretty easy to edit album art, and that art will sync with your Play Music app. You can just stream your music on the phone, or download the music for offline use.

I just tested the example issue you mentioned. If I select an artist, I see all albums I have from that artist, but also a selection for "Show All Songs." The latter will give me an alphabetical list of all songs from that artist, including from compilations. However, it won't group the songs by album -- it's just alphabetical by song.
