All calls are now going to voicemail....? Don't know what I changed?

My 6P is now forwarding all calls to voicemail. When I go into phone settings and try to show the forwarding settings, it tries to read them (from the carrier I assume) and returns "Network or SIM card error." I'm on AT&T.

I searched all over and did find a thread talking about this problem with Samsung phones and various carriers but they said it was a bug.

I'm not sure how long this has been happening because I don't get a long of calls. At least two days. I have been on Nougat since the last developer preview and I was getting calls. I updated to final build when it came out.

Anyone encountering this? Fix?

Thanks!

Can you make outbound calls?

I spent over an hour with AT&T tech support. For just a moment, I was able to receive and make calls. Then it stopped working. In all the fiddling around, my voicemail got switched from YouMail to AT&T's voicemail (which I have never used). My next stop is for a new SIM card on Sunday afternoon.

I have always been able send and receive texts. Data works too. It's just voice. You think that's a bad SIM?

go to settings > more > cellular networks > access point names

make sure you have a an entry: ATT Nextgenphone

tap that, scroll down to: APN type

make sure that it is: default, mms, supl, fota, hipri

in that order. if you change anything, back out of the menus to settings, and reboot, wait a couple of minutes after reboot, then check your phone abilities.

Well.... I certainly have a story for you! For those that decide to read this thread............

I went to AT&T but on the way there, I decided to try some calls. They worked!

I decided to go ahead and replace the SIM anyway. Couldn't hurt. We did it in the store. Placed some calls, they worked. Just to be sure, I placed more calls on the drive home.

All was good again.

Tonight, I tried to log into a site that required an actual voice call to authenticate. No problem, I thought. My phone works, right?

Call went straight to voicemail. I tried to make a call. Nope. Tried to call my phone. Nope. Back to no voice calls. Texts worked. Data works. Exactly the same problem. Only difference, I'm in my house.

Back onto tech support chat. The guy tried everything (again). No luck. Now my case is being referred to the "Network support team."

But... before we ended the chat... I said I have another phone. An awful Fire phone. So we moved the SIM over. Still no calls. I guess I was happy to discover it wasn't the Nexus.

So.... either someone has installed an anti-Android blocking device in my home or...I have no idea.

:(:(:( :mad::mad::mad::mad:

Does it still work when you leave your house? Far enough away to get on another tower that is...

Here's more info I added to the case with AT&T today...

I am able to make and receive calls when I get a few blocks away from my home. Today, I tried placing a call on my way home and was able to continue that call all the way to and into my house. It maintained the connection. When I hung up and tried to place another call, it would not place the call from inside my house.

I reported this to AT&T and had them add that info to my case.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Are the towers being serviced? It just sounds like you don't have good AT&T service where you live.

I have been using AT&T in this location for years. I have had this Nexus since last November with no problems. The iPhone user in my house has no problems. My phone reads full LTE signal. Phoenix is pretty flat and I rarely run into coverage issues. The other puzzling thing is I can text and use data just fine.

It's been 4-5 days since this started.

Oh - one other tidbit - my phone seems to drop to HSPA as soon as I try to make a call. No idea how that fits in.

I appreciate the feedback though.

Google is sending me a replacement. I have no idea if it's going to make any difference but... why not.

I'm a bit surprised that it takes so long to do a warranty replacement. It looks like I won't get it for a week.

We'll see what happens!

Oddly enough I had a similar problem using Google Fi. In a particular location in California I'd have a pretty weak signal (old buildings with really thick concrete walls) but I could make a call - as soon as the call was completed the cellular signal would go into searching mode (a series of dots running back and forth under the normal bars) and then the phone would report something like 'no cellular service'. After ten or fifteen minutes it would finally revert back to the usual weak signal indicator for that location. If I happened to have a good WiFi connection it would just default to WiFi calling rather than using the weak cellular signal to make the call.

Anyway, have you asked AT&T about providing a network extender for your home?

Have you already tried a Factory Reset and system cache wipe?

That's interesting because I did find other posts referencing Fi. I'm not on it though.

The latest is that I did pick up a microcell ("extender") from AT&T and it works so this tells me the phone is probably fine but the replacement phone is on its way. I'm still going to switch to that in case there is any possibility it's a phone problem. The microcell is 3G.

Per Google's support, I booted into safe mode which disabled all the 3rd party apps and that did nothing.

The new phone will essentially be a "reset" phone. I don't plan to restore anything to it. I'll be installing apps individually.

AT&T says they expect a resolution of my case by tomorrow. I am very curious to see if they do anything and what their findings are.

I really don't want to have to pay for and use a microcell. That's just silly considering the iPhone in this same house works!

Hmm, I thought the carriers had a very nominal charge, if any, for an extender. Not sure why you'd object to using one (although of course if there's a phone issue then you'd want that fixed) since it should improve voice signal for all devices in the household.

It isn't necessarily the expense ($149.95). It's the fact that I have to use data on my network for voice calls. Cox has a data usage cap per month depending on the plan you are on. I have already had to bump up once. Yes, it's generally unlikely that I will exceed the cap now but I would prefer to not have another thing using my data. It won't be awful if I have to use the microcell but it just makes no sense that I need this when Apple phones work.

Is there something different about the radios in Nexus phones vs. Apple phones?

To close this thread out, here is what happened:

The case with AT&T remained open. On Sunday night, I tried to make a call again. It worked! Not convinced, I made another call, it worked. Called my phone, it worked. Still not convinced, I waiting a few hours, tried again, it worked! Waited until Monday morning, it worked!

My replacement Nexus arrived Monday afternoon. Tried my old one again, it worked. I contacted AT&T and asked them if there were any notes on my case. There weren't so I don't know what they did. Tried to activate the new Nexus with the new SIM I had picked up and as luck would have it, they were going through a major upgrade and couldn't activate any phones until Tuesday (today).

Just to cover all bases, I went ahead and switched over to the warranty replacement phone. Just my luck, they weren't able to activate it. I had to go back to the store for the fourth (fifth?) time. Said "Hi" to all my new AT&T friends. They were able to activate it. Came home, it worked.

So... I am sticking with this warranty replacement. Sending back the old phone. I did a clean install of 7.0 last night before I got the new SIM today and activated. Everything is new. No restore from backup. Clean slate.

Only leftover oddity is that my phone still drops to HSPA when I place a call regardless of where I am. I don't get it. I don't care. It works again in my house!

End of thread! :)
