All day Wifi Hotspot?

I'm wondering about the possibility of leaving the WiFi hotspot on all the time...with the Galaxy Tab in a nearby backpack for much of the day...being the data connection for wifi only mobile devices.

1. Am I kidding myself thinking that this is possible and reasonable?
2. How much would this kill the battery? Would it last the day and still be usable as a tablet without being plugged in?

The $39 t-mobile plan is tempting...if it means I can drop my smartphone data package (on verizon) and use my Droid as a WiFi only device without VZW service. As a developer, I'm also a candidate for a Nexus S upon release...but having more than one data plan just isn't in my budget...certainly not three data plans. I could easily live with a cheap feature phone for voice calls.

T-mobile one allows data tethering. would be good for ya.

I left my wifi on all day yesterday, its fine, last 14+ hours with at least 3 hours normal browsing.
