All numbers are showing Unknown even when they are in my contacts

whenever one of my contacts ring it always shows unknown and that's for all my contacts

You sure you have caller ID on your carrier plan?

things to check:

1) have your contacts synced from Google?--actually verifying that it was synced through the 'Accounts' portion of the Settings.

2) are they calling your carrier-provided number, or are they calling a Google Voice number that you gave to them?

3) are you using a 3rd party Dialer application that might not have a caller-ID function enabled?

4) lastly, in honor of the IT Crowd answer, have you tried turning it off & back on again? (including a battery pull)
