we buy it, no stock apps except for the essential ( phone, address book and internet) to make the phone work.

So on the set up we could choose which apps we want on our phone.

one app can be good for one person and not good for another.

Nexus device are pretty spartan. I think aside from the stock ones, I had maybe two or three additional...

I like the size of the note 3 for its real estate screen. That is pretty much what I need. as for apps I am not using a whole lot which most of it become not use full for me.I bought it just for the screen, removable battery and sd card.
I needed it when I was trucking. was easy to read email.

You want a Nexus phone (excluding the Nexus 5) or a GPe device.

Or you can build your own using your own hardware and AOSP.

what is those 2?

Telus had told me to go with nexus for the pure google experience but 5" screen was a bit too small for me. If it would of been the same size as note 3 then yes.
When I went with note 3. I also thought i would used the pen. well not so much

With Google giving the Nexus 5 an exclusive launcher, it makes it less "pure Android". Pure Android and pure Google are two separate things.

Not sure if this is available Canada's Play Store, but sounds like the Sony Z Ultra Google Play edition is the phone you want.
