Almost a month in and already a thread about looking back in retrospect.

July 4th is approaching and for those who got the phone on launch day, it means our phones will be a still-young, month old. Before June 4th, I was an iPhone/iOS user who couldn?t wait to jump ship and convert to the Android platform and find myself constantly delighted by my choice to do so.

Coming from a land of lock-down to a world of open fields has truly been eye opening. The Android operating system along with the Sense UI (haters gonna? hate) allowed me such a level of customization that for a while, I didn?t even know what to do with all of it due to the sheer overwhelming fact that, *gasp* I now had a choice as to what my phones screen looked like! What a concept!

Not only is the Evo my first Android phone but also my first Sprint phone and so far, in these first thirty days, I have no complaints, truly unlimited web, mobile-to-mobile calling and SMS have been a pleasure. Not one dropped call and it very rarely loses coverage in California (due usually to tall structures and big buildings, that kind of stuff).

One thing that I believe to be a huge difference is how much more I seem to be using data. I went from 50MB to 120MB on my iPhone 3G (3.1.3 if it matters) to a whopping 720MB on my Evo on 3G (no widgets used) and I?m still not quite sure what to attribute this huge number to at the moment but it may be due in part to my fascination with it and inability to put it down for quite a while after I walked out of the RadioShack to put it through its paces.

But, down to the point. I wanted to lay down some usage and crunch numbers with the hopes of some people following suit. How does your use of the HTC Evo 4G compare to that of your last phone? The numbers can be approximate but just to get an idea of the differences between how you used your old phone and how you use the Evo.

Previous Phone: iPhone 3G
Data usage per month: ~50MB-120MB
Text messages sent and received per month: ~1,500
Number of pictures taken per month: ~30
Number of videos taken per month: N/A
Most used app(s): Facebook and Shazam
MMS sent and received per month: ~50
Minutes used per month: ~300

Current Phone: HTC Evo 4G
Monthly data usage this month: 761MB and climbing
Text messages sent and received this month: 1984
Number of pictures taken This Month: ~200
Number of videos taken This Month: 10-15
Most used app(s): Seesmic, Fring and Soundhound
MMS sent and received this month: ~30 (most published to social networks and not sent to phones.)
Minutes used: 15 (who calls landlines anymore?)

If you?ve got any additional fields you want to add, don?t hesitate to lay down the law and do so. Also some of you, myself included, may just be interested in seeing how much congestion we?ve caused to Sprint?s network (although it?s likely nowhere near as bad as iPhones and AT&T) in terms of data usage and the works seeing as we?re all giddy with our new gadget and likely have much higher usage numbers now then we will in the coming months so just post your usage stats and let the collective hive-mind doctor that is the Android Central Forums determine what the damage is (unprofessionally of course)

Nice thread, I'm glad your enjoying your evo.

the phone i had before this was the blackberry tour and the palm pre...

my story is a month before the evo came out i knew i had to sell my palm so i could make some cash back before it loses value so i switched to bb...

in that month i started using bbm which is very popular amongst teens so i didn't want to get rid of it...

now i'm on a only data plan on the bb and simply every on the evo

my text messages and my mms messages lower now because of bbm but this factor i think will blow everyone away...

with tethering enabled on the pre i would use 2.5 some change gb a month...

with the evo not even a month yet i am at 3.4gb without any tethering involved at all!
