Almost Impossible to Transfer Images to Laptop

Every month I back up my Android's images to my laptop, and then from there to an external drive. Now I have a new phone, though (previously a Samsung Galaxy A32, now the Moto Power 5G), and suddenly this has become very difficult. Maybe it's the file-type this new phone uses, but now when I search for an therefore isolate only images from the past month, copy those images, and attempt to paste them into a folder on my laptop, it took over 10 minutes to calculate the completion time, and then the box actually said "Time remaining: More than 1 day!"

Quite simply, how do I figure out what is causing this process to be so much more difficult than it used to be? Thank you.

Any idea how much data you're trying to transfer? If it's in the GB range, that can go very slowly, especially if you're only using USB 2.0. In addition, transferring huge amounts of data in one go can be glitchy over USB -- I've experienced data loss in the past when doing this. It's safer to copy files over in smaller batches.

Yes, that certainly is part of the problem -- I acknowledge that! Here's the thing. Just the total size of the files (images) I want to copy and paste to my laptop this time is 6.5 GB. But what I have to do is open the whole DCIM folder first, and that's obviously way beyond that as it's all-time rather than just one month. So, it would make sense that it's problematic. That having been said, with my old Samsung phone it was doable, even if a bit slow. Now it's basically impossible -- I'm certainly not keeping my phone connected for over a day to do so.

I'm hoping not (as I'm cheap), but what might be the only solution is to cough up for the money for Google's online storage option rather than free backup to a physical drive. At least then, as I understand it, the images will be transferred straight from my phone to the cloud without any need for an intermediary.

Using an online calculator, I figured out that 6.5 GB of data transferred over USB-C 2.0 (which is what your phone supports) at 480 Mbps should still take just a little under 2 minutes, so I'm not sure what's going on. If you're doing a Select All in the folder, perhaps there's some file that's corrupt, and causing things to hang up during the transfer process. It's still worth trying the file transfer using smaller batches.

Wow, now I'm really not sure what to say! Even with my old phone, it certainly took a lot more than two minutes. And, in case it matters, this is with trying three different machines to copy on to -- two laptops and one desktop.

I'm guessing part of the problem is that the folder I'm OPENING it a lot greater than 6.5 GB. And then what I do is to use the search bar to isolate only images from the past month and THEN copy all of THOSE files (and, of course, every month it's a different batch of files). But I wonder if the presence of the huge folder I was copying from is still somehow tripping things up. The problem is that it seems like this would be a tough thing to test for and diagnose.
