Always On Display not working on Samsung Watch 6

I purchased a new Watch 6 and a Samsung S23 Ultra. I have been setting up the watch. Under watch Settings - Display are 2 relevant settings. One is "Always On Display" and the other is "Screen Timeout". Screen Timeout has only 3 options and I have to pick one; 15 sec, 30 sec or 1 minute. I have activated Always On Display but it is always overridden by the Screen Timeout setting. My watch screen goes dark after 15 sec, 30 sec, or 1 minute; depending upon the setting I choose. There is no option to set "none" for Screen Timeout. What am I missing? Thank you for your time.

First thing to do is check for a software update for the watch. If you're on the December patch I would try turning AOD off and then turning the watch off and back on and then turning AOD back on. , But you may have to factory reset.
