That being said, Sammy didn't make things better by making the image move 1 pixel per minute. Yes, the minute number changes every minute, and the hour every hour, but still. Not the smartest move.
Actually, "Sammy" obviously listened to people complaining about the AOD being distracting by moving so much every minute - for example, if you've got the phone on a table in front/beside you (in your field of view) and you're focusing on something else (say a book or your computer screen), almost everyone with normal peripheral vision would get distracted every time the clock moves. By "distracted", I mean it will cause you to spontaneously glance at the phone, as your brain will be subconsciously curious at the movement (of the clock).
By only moving an imperceptible amount every minute and making bigger jumps every 30-60 minutes, it appears to have solved the above issue, while also preventing screen burn in. If the screen burns in with the above AOD behaviour, then it would burn in with many other activities (including playing long games of chess or studying a textbook on the same page for 30-60 minute periods etc).
Anyway, I've been using AOD since I got the phone a month ago, and I'll report if I notice any screen burn in over the next few months!
EDIT: closely observed the pixel movements over the last 80 minutes or so. I can confirm that a big jump occurred after about 60 minutes. From 60 to 80 minutes, there appears to be enough movement so that the thickness of the individual numbers/characters essentially move to the extent that the numbers/characters are in a completely different position. That is, I would estimate that about every 20 minutes, there is enough movement so that the displayed numbers/characters are in completely different positions. I would think that this alone is enough to prevent screen burn in, as it would be ridiculous if burn in occurred due to the display being in the same position for only 20 minutes at a time. The big movements every 60 minutes probably isn't necessary, but I guess it doesn't hurt.
